Alternative To Index Furniture?

Featured Replies

Everywhere i go people tell me get index furniture. But its really expensive. Are there any other good but cheaper brands?

Personally i like timber furniture, not laminated fiber board crap.

Pine or softwoods is fine, i dont like that bloody heavy thai teak furniture you see in thai houses.

Ikea are opening soon, but I am in Chiang Mai anyway.

I dont mind paying a bit more for that wicker type chairs. I quite like wicker sofas with good cushions etc.

Perhaps you should post this on the Chiang Mai forum?

Hi,

its a 3 hour drive from chaingmai but if you have a pickup then take a trip to phrae. there is a little town on the way there, about 30 mins outside uttaradit that has furniture galore. it is very reasonably priced and in good quality wood and you can haggle with them. they have bed frames, head boards, tables and chairs, arm chairs. all sorts of stuff and a great day out. and they have that reed furniture that is so light but strong. :D

Most of index furniture looks good but is crap quality to be honest. Try Baan Tawai near Hang Dong.

cool thanks whats the name of town?

Can't believe someone in northern Thailand is wondering where to get furniture.

One of the great things about being in Asia is that proper wooden furniture is widely available and affordable, which of course it isn't in Farang-land. Which is why Farang-land is full of Ikeas and other tasteless short-lived artificial crap.

The entire world will be Ikea and McDonalds soon. So sad. :(

you are coming from chaingmai, so lampang, phrae, then the little town is called Den Chai. dont turn for phrae just stay on the main road for uttaradit. when you turn left for uttaradit, you will see all the furniture shops on the left. there will be lots of shops on the road on the way when you get close to Den Chai but they are a little more expensive as they buy it from Den Chai.

Dont be afraid to haggle and you will get a good deal. if you dont see what you want, just tell em. they will surely know where to get one.

Have a great day out and be careful. its one of those places where you will end up buying stuff you dont really need cause it looks so good. all handmade by the way.

:D

Den Chai also has their own coffee. Try it while you are shopping!
