Shopping

Featured Replies

I live on a small island Kauai, HI. in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Our shopping is limited as far as selection in clothing. I will not have time to go to the mainland before taking off for three months of traveling (2 months of which will be in Thailand). I was hoping to do some serious shopping :o in Bangkok for some clothes in cotton and /or silk. I don't want to have anything made. Just some ready made skirts (long) and loose shirts and pants. Can you tell me if it is possible to buy anything in larger sizes, as the Thai women are so petite.

I am 5'8'(172.72 centimeters) about 140 lbs (63.55 kilograms).

Well proportionately that is still not considered huge in our country (US) its pretty large in comparison to the Thai Women. I am also to put it delicately "amply endowed" which is another bit of anatomy that is different from the Asian women.

I would appreciate serious recommendations as to where I might shop to find casual cotton, linen and silk clothing to fit someone my size or if I'm not going to find my size at all?

One of my female colleagues is similar to what you described yourself. She went shopping in BKK 3 weeks ago and found that the largest size was 15. That was even bigger than what she needed but not everything was available that "large".

I remember her saying she went to Tokyu department store (next to MBK).

Average Thais appear to be size 10 - 12 and most goods come to fit that market.
