Both won't promote explicit gay naturism, because it is a non-sexual thing.

Unfortunately, you won't even find nude gay bodies in most gay-sauna's that are around.

My mate takes care of a 5 bed villa up in the mountains here on Samui. no neighbours for miles and he couldn't give a toss whether the customers want to run around naked make loads of noise or are gay. I have said to him he wants to try the naturist market. The gay naturist market is an even better niche if you have the customers he has the villa

I'm curious to hear from other gay nudists whether it's important for them that a nudist resort be gay-only or whether as in my case, I would be quite comfortable at any nudist resort that is welcoming to all.

I know this is far from the extent asked for by this thread, but in *some* gyms a *few* male Thais are finally allowing themselves to be seen in their *underwear* without wrapping the towel protectively two or three times around their bodies. Not all it could be, but every little bit of progress...

Why are they so shy ??? i am european and nakedness is no big deal, we are all the same at the end of the day.

I think it's interesting to compare the different approach to nudity in Thailand and in Japan. Both had cultures involving small villages for a long time; however, the winter seasons in Japan made it necessary for greater numbers of people to live closer together in well-insulated farmhouses where heat, firewood, and fresh water were at a premium. As a result, baths became communal and the nudity taboo was too expensive to maintain.

Given the hot climate, one would think a nudity taboo in Thailand is counter-intuitive- and it seems to me that most Thais are slightly less bothered than Americans about, say, stripping down to shorts around each other. However, big families were living in small rooms together for a long time here, and I think what has happened is that they have become 'considerate' in these close quarters towards *total* nudity around each other, and this just becomes the 'normal' way of life.

It's a cultural difference. As Hofstede (the great guru of cultural research) said: "Culture is the collective programming of the mind."

It does not matter what you think makes sense, as you grew up with your European culture and the Thais grew up with their Thai culture. What matters is what each individual feels comfortable with, and that is determined by the upbringing, i.e. the time the mind was programmed.

Most Thai's grow up in a 1 or 2 room shack with 8 or 9 other people. It is not like where you and I come from, where every child has his or her own bedroom. Even the richer ones, who have more personal space, have to conform with the norms of the overall culture.

It does not matter what you think makes sense, as you grew up with your European culture and the Thais grew up with their Thai culture. What matters is what each individual feels comfortable with, and that is determined by the upbringing, i.e. the time the mind was programmed.

They don't "have to", they "want to". Again, it's a cultural difference, Thailand is a collectivist country while Western countries, the US for example, are indiuvidualistic countries. Read up on Hofstede, if you like.

Practical example: We were 8 people travelling and had rented this resort bungalow with 4 bedrooms. My friend and I took one bedroom, and the others all shared a second room, leaving two empty. When I asked them in the morning why they did not use the other rooms, as everybody would have had more space, they explained that it is more "orb-oon", i.e. cozy, to share a room and it would be lonely to sleep in seperate rooms.

OMG! that is so ageist. There is nothing wrong with the naked body young, old fat or thin. Nudism isn't supposed to be about sex.

You're right - cancel the "age" comment.

I think I'm very lucky. My Thai boyfriend is very comfortable being naked around me, and if we go to a pool party he wears such skimpy speedos. I even got him to skinny dip with me one night, that was such fun.

In general though it is sad that Thai's in general are very shy but that is their culture, we are there as visitors and must remember that.

I would certainly love to visit a gay-nudist resort if one ever started and I'm sure I could talk my boyfriend into coming too, especially if there lots of farang there, he's such a flirt. haha.

Why does it have to be a "gay nudist resort" or do you prefer it to be based on a sexual preference?

It doesn't have to be exclusively gay, but I do feel more comfortable around people of the same orientation as me. It's not just a nudist thing, It's the same however I socialise. But again this is just a preference, not a rule.

Having just returned from two naturist resorts in another Asian country, I will add that I am just VERY uncomfortable being naked around women. Not a matter of sexual preference at all . . as it isnt a sexual thing.

Naturist resorts ( for me) dont have to be gay but they have to be male . . which they probably wouldnt be unless they were gay.

The other thing is that both resorts advertised as "clothing optional" and curiously most of the guests opted to stay clothed which was annoying and something I will ask about in future. I want a "clothing prohibited" resort. As it was, apart from the owner and two or three other guests, I turned out to be the only true naturist and stayed naked the entire time.

I tease my Thai partner that Thai men are born wearing underwear.
