Report: Samsung, Google Cancel Nexus Prime 'Ice Cream Sandwich' Event

By Chloe Albanesius

October 7, 2011 10:00am

Google and Samsung have reportedly postponed an October 11 event that was expected to include the launch of Android "Ice Cream Sandwich" and the Samsung Nexus Prime smartphone.

In a statement provided to Engadget and SlashGear, which reportedly came from Samsung's U.K. division, the companies said: "Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

Samsung officials in the U.S, when reached, said they could not currently confirm or deny the Samsung U.K. statement.

Phandroid speculated the event delay might be related to the passing of Apple chief Steve Jobs, but nothing has been confirmed.

I went and bought the SGSII instead, im really happy with it. But being a hardware specs nut i feel a bit at unease bying a phone atm. But i guess any phone you buy today you get great value from it.

My next big investment hardware wise will be a tablet, but im gonna wait untill the 4 core CPUs/GPUs are the standard for them. Im guessing we will see the first 4 core tablet within six months.

I agree, going to sell my S2 for that beast

Samsung Note (5" super AMOLED screen) is my next baby...should be out any time now.

Just hope cargo/painters pants come back in style, I'm gonna need BIG pockets!

Awesome. I think Ice Cream Sandwich is the point at where I upgrade my phone. I am tempted by that Samsung Note though.

It looks like this will be called the Google Galaxy Nexus; it was unveiled, along with ICS (Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich), today in Hong Kong. Looks like we'll have to wait on availability and pricing.

Im happy that the SGSII holds its own against this phone, the SGSII has the better processor, same amount of ram, 8mp camera, and removable SD card.

I was a bit worried bying the SGSII so close upon the release of the new Nexus, alltough now im happy i did it.
