astral
I use utorrent as my main torrent programme, but for some reason I have two copies running. Looking at the process properties, they are both running from the same file and using the same directories for the torrent and downloaded files. The problem is that they have different views of what is being downloaded and the progress. One copy starts when the machine is booted. The other pops up when I download a new torrent. All very confusing. A google on the subject suggested malware problems, but ZoneAlarm Extreme security does not show any problems nor does the MS Malicious SW Removal tool. Any suggestions? astral
Thinking that it might be utorrent I deleted the entire programme and installed Deluge, another torrent client. It exhibits the same behaviour, with two copies running in memory at the same time, with different lists of what is to be downloaded, and the current status of existing downloads. I downloaded a trial version of Avira Professional and scanned with that. One trojan was found and quarantined, but the problem persists. What to do next? newcomer01
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Is there only 2 uTorrents running no matter how many downloads you add. eg add another bit torrent another uTorrent starts. One method I may suggest is to disable uTorrent from starting on system startup. uTorrent - Options - General - uncheck Start uTorrent on system startup. What browser are you using to download? Mozzilla? Check Tools - Options - applications to check what is the default downloader for bit torrents.
Daffy D
You don't mention your OS, if you have XP try this. Right click on Start (bottom left of screen) then click on Explore In the folder menu bar at the top click on Tools - Folder Options - View - Check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" - Apply - OK. Then navigate to "Your Name" Application Data - scroll down locate and copy and save the uTorrent folder. Uninstall all your copies of uTorrent, if you have CCleaner or something similar run that to get rid of any registry entries. Install the uTorrent of your choice and copy the uTorrent folder you saved before to the same location as before and all should be well. Oh! Just in case be sure to create a restore point before starting.
astral
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Is there only 2 uTorrents running no matter how many downloads you add. New torrents always add to the second utorrent. One method I may suggest is to disable uTorrent from starting on system startup. Already the case. What browser are you using to download? Mozzilla? Check Tools - Options - applications to check what is the default downloader for bit torrents. utorrent is the default, the only torrent programme loaded. astral
Pursuing this further and suspecting utorrent, I deleted it altogether and substituted Vuze/Azeurus. That did the same thing................. 2 copies run.......... I am still thinking virus, but have not been able to locate it so far.
Supernova
Use a LiveCD to scan for viruses instead of scanning from inside Windows...
