hyperdimension
An article in the Bangkok Post published a week ago titled "Army chief Prayuth met by angry red-shirts" describes red shirt supporters in Pathum Thani berating Prayuth as he inspected troops making sand bags to protect the locals. If they don't want the help of the military then the military should simply move along to help others instead. Well if you have 10.000 people who need help and 10 red idiots you can't stop helping the other 9.990. If whatever number of red idiots would prefer to have their places submerged and/or die than to be helped by the military, let them be. They are a waste of time and resources. Maybe the UDD leaders can promote them as martyrs for a "just" cause. Amsterdam can then continue milking Thaksin of his money by writing essays (and maybe another submission to the International Criminal Court) about how the red shirts were rudely neglected and left to die by the military in a time of need. MunterHunter
Well if you have 10.000 people who need help and 10 red idiots you can't stop helping the other 9.990. In the declared 'Red districts' - yes The Army was there to help, but the ran the Army out of town... so now those 10 red idiots are responsible. However, those 9,990 people should rise against the 10 reds and throw them out... Sad, but true.

chooka
So now, the flood disaster management is run by the prime minister's runaway older brother over telephone from another country? Only in Thailand One would believe that a country that has seen floods every single year since the beginning of time had a permanent flood management team working all year to prevent situations like this, but apparently not. I agree there has been red & yellow governments over many years and nothing constructive has ever been done to prevent such a thing. No sense finger pointing as both sides are equally to blame. A bit like pulling the pin from a grenade and playing catch with it, it will eventually go off in someones face and has. The reds might be responsible but it doesn't help any dead people that the red and not the army was responsible. As well the reds are already telling that the army only helps the rich elite in Bangkok and let the "pray" die blablabla. Whatever the army does the reds spin the story so that the army is evil and the reds are angels. Must be very frustrating for the army

scorecard
Thaksin Thinks ... Thailand Sinks And thaksin appoints the ministers to surround his 'clone' sister, and the floods come, and they all prove to be totally incapable, the science minister the worst example, totally incapable, totally ineffective, totally useless, and makes further problems. Doesn't appear that anybody with the correct knowledge, experience and insight (and there are plenty) is strongly involved. Government and BMA fighting instead of cooperating. Red shirts playing their own selfish agenda. And millions of Thais adversely effected, 320+ people lost their lives, many lost their homes, and livelihood and all resources, and more. All the incapability in place for the desires of one selfish, selfish, selfish, selfish highly corrupt man. rametindallas
When a government chooses its ministers based on their loyalty to the 'paymaster', why would anyone expect a level of competence in handling this crisis? Political appointees may be good at political goals of bringing Dr. Thaksin back to power but are thoroughly incompetent to run the day-to-day operations of a nation much less dealing with extraordinary events such as this flood. I do see a lot of 'grandstanding' by attention seeking politicians and it is sickening. I completly agree with the author of this article.
phutoie2
I feel a bit sorry for Yingluck, very inexperienced and I bet she wishes she were elsewhere, but trying her best and probably winning a lot of admirers by putting herself around a bit and showing sympathy. Not enough to get it right, but where are her running dogs? However, I wonder if she is being allowed the chance to sink or swim here? She did, let's face it, make a few enemies in her own camp by allowing the photoshoot with Abhisit and looking like she was grateful for advice. Little sign of the Chalerms and Jatuporns getting involved. Guess they must be busy Polls lambasting the inefficiency of Yingluck's government response to the flood would seem to indicate that she's not "winning a lot of admirers." Having nearly 80% of the country saying you're doing a <deleted> job should be a wake-up, although not that it really matters as she's not really running things. I'd have sympathy for her myself... if she was a minor, but, as a middle-aged billionairess, she's gets but a few satang worth. She's had her ticket conveniently punched her whole life and from that, she's showing her incompetence to be P.M. daily. The people got what the wanted. It seems now they are beginning to wake up to see what it is they got. It's the one blessing this flood has provided. . Cods wallop, you are thinking the typical western view and not seeing the big piccy here. Its stopped raining, the sun is out, the water will recede. None of it will penetrate central Bangkok. Yingluck will be perceived as the heroine/saviour of the city and Thailand. Her popularity will increase and she will steamroller through the next election with ease. Mark my words.
