Bababooey
A 58 year old American friend of mine is planing a trip to Thailand. He would like to stay for 99 days but if that'sgoing to be a big hassle then can modify the trip to stay for only 90 days. He has the proof of income to get a 90 day visa at the New York Consulate. Can he extend for an extra 9 days? Would be a bit of a hassle for him to extend for a year as would require a trip to the USA Embassy in Bangkok for a notarized form and he does not want to wire in 800K baht. Any ideas? Jingthing
I suggest instead of a single entry O visa, that your friend apply for a double entry tourist visa, each good for a 60 day stay. That would involve one trip to a neighboring country either as a visa run or a short side trip. Going for a retirement extension in his case is absurd overkill. On top of that, tourism is not a valid reason for getting a single entry O visa in the first place. Edited October 18, 2011 by Jingthing
MTH
Jingthing is right on the spot. Proof of income is irrelevant. Why not have your friend apply for a double entry tourist visa? 60 days initially on arrival, and an additional 30days at immigration. Brings your friend to 90 days. Then if the dude want to stay longer, a quick boarder hop will grant him well over the 99 days you’re looking for.
