There are so many imported disasembled motorcycles here that are bought in auctions disasembled, shipped here and reassembled to escape taxes and duties. Just wondering if the same goes on with autos and possibly RVs from Japan??

If so, who would I contact to do this?? and hopefully English speaking.

I've been into motorcycle shops here that have the auction magazines and you pick your motorcycle, pay the price and take your chances and wait for your bike.

With the amount of posts you have and reading on here I would of thought you would know the answer to this already.:D

+1

And an appointment with the BiB. Give me your cash and l will invest it for you.

Reminds me of the story from a few years back, where importers were gutting Ferrari's and other exotics of crucial, expensive parts (like ECU's), then importing them and letting customs sieze them, only to buy them back at auction at basement prices, and then refit the missing bits..

The scheme had it 15 seconds of fame when customs started crushing the cars (and inviting the press to film it) instead of sending them to auction ;)

Thanks for the constructive replies guys.....

I think my question is legit in that it is done with motorcycles.....I have a good Jap reassembled import [no registration, but no need out in the boondocks where I live] and I know it can be done with farm equipment etc. It's just a matter of knowing the right people who have the connections and are doing it successfully and there is a network of Thai importers that bring in all kinds of surplus 'parts' from Japan for low duties and resale them for cheap to Thais. I am simply asking who and where I could connect.

I don't think your going to connect to anybody people importing car parts from Japan do just that parts and maybe front cuts . I presume you want something nice but what are you going to do with it just drive round the boondocks and not go anywhere near a large town or city?.

I assumed the OP was looking for a business venture.

What exactly are you looking for JaiDeeGuy? A hotrod for your farm? Farm equipment? Building an oversized kart track and making field of dreams "BoondockDrome" with a fleet of hotrods? Looking to go into business selling unregisterable hotrods?

If we know more about what you're after, some ideas might spring to mind :)

As I mentioned in my OP, I am looking for importers of RVs from Japan and mentioned other markets like motorcycle, auto and farm and construction equipment importers......knowing RVs would be a small niche market, but maybe someone in the business of importing could look for a used RV.

I have viewed some of the inventory online from these auctions in Japan and they have about every piece of machinery you could imagine, but info and specs are in Japanese and that's why you need an 'importer' that knows the language and conections and procedures. Most of the farm machinery and motorcycles are in extremely good condition because the Japs maintain their

equipment well and will often sell it off to get a newer model and I was hoping to find an RV in good condition.

Is that too much to ask on the motor forum without getting so much flame??

If you're looking to import an actual whole vehicle, you won't be able to avoid the full gamut of taxes - even a top fuel drag car that only ever runs on a 1/4 mile strip must be road registered in Thailand (talk about a lack of distinction), so even if the vehicle was never to be used on public roads, it would appear that if it has 4 or more wheels it's just not possible to get an exemption....

AFAIK, most spare part imports are subject to 30% duty plus 7% VAT though, so bringing it in in pieces may be the best option.

As for leads on companies that might be able to assist/advise, everyone doing jap imports has listings on one2car.com, so you should be able to farm some phone numbers from there, if no one else here has a lead to share..

No flames intended, just forum guys thoughts. Just read and move on. Good luck with your possible venture. :)

No it's not Jaidee guy and it's refreshing to see my previous posts on that sort of childishness has been taken to heart <_< ..

One mans perception but obviously not the OP or other observers..

I might be extrapolating things a little far here, but..

When I hear "RV", I think "Winnebago".. and seeing as you've already stated it doesn't need to be road registered, that leads me to think that what you're potentially after is some kind of temporary/transportable accomodations..

If that's the case, there may be some other options..

I have to say that when I read the original post I don't get "I'm looking to import an RV that doesn't need.to be registerable", to me it reads like "I want to find a way around import duties and taxes on Japanese imports..

That's the problem with the written word I guess, especially when trying to be concise with people that don't know where you're coming from...

And the fact that this particular forum leans towards pragmatic and/or sarcastic responses doesn't help much.. ;)

Truer words were never spoken if not understated. I can see that and have been a bit guilty at times myself but it's also a fact that people often times speed read right past the pertinent points to get to the quickest punchline..

I've been a victim of that myself more times then I can count or even care to try..

The content becomes irrelevant at the expense of the group laugh up.
