Useless Flood Maps

Featured Replies

Are there any maps with up to date and accurate information. For example, the Google Crisis map at http://www.google.org/crisisresponse/thailand-flood-2011.html#map does not show the flooding at Navanakorn which is completely under water. The Thailand Flood Monitoring System website has a map showing which areas are liable to flood but it is dated 15-17 October: http://flood.gistda.or.th/

All the ones I saw were useless and out of date, why was no one updating them?

I think this map is out of date as well.

anyone know if 305 to33 is still open?

For those needing to travel at the moment, here's some official web links that may help you plan your journey around the flooded roads in the Kingdom..

Map showing flooded roads in the kingdom (green = flooded but passable*, red = impassable):

http://www.thaiflood.com/highwaymap/

Not easy to use, but has the most specific and up-to-date road flooding information (note: use Internet Exploder if your modern web browser renders it messed up):

http://gis.mot.go.th...d/mapviewer.jsf

Site with current flooding maps and downloadable KML files for Google Earth (often down though):

http://flood.gistda.or.th/

* Passable in cars with decent ground clearance.

Conditions are changing rapidly, so always call the Highways Hotline on 1586 if your route could be passing through a flooded area (a Thai speaker would be very beneficial for this though)

It was open this morning when I went out from Klong 10 down to Klong 7, and back. Then a friend came down from up in the lower north, Pichit, via Saraburi, 1 to 33 and on down to 305.

Lots of tour buses out this morning, too, headed to the NE & North.

Thanks for the links but this just illustrates the same problem. I dont know what the situation is now but a week ago Rojana Road ouside the Industrial Park was up to a metre deep but not marked on the Highways map. Perhaps Rojana Road is not a Highway? The Northbound exits for the Dong Muang Expressway are now under water but not marked on the map.

As I mentioned in the post, the main map on http://flood.gistda.or.th is still dated 15-17 Oct.

I will have a look at http://gis.mot.go.th...d/mapviewer.jsf but it is down for maintenance at the moment!

Thanks
