I would have thought that the more obvious people to be looking for would be Chalerm and the other likely lads as they seem absent as well. And they are ACTUALLY part of the government.

The interesting reconcilliation related development of this disaster has been how as time has gone on the army and government seem to have started working better together and publically agreeing. Gen. Prayuth dismissed the calls for an SOE today, which firmly moves him away from democrat demands. Maybe something good will come out of the adversity of present.

I dont think too many Thai people or even the government and army are debating the finer points of Thaksin right now by the way. There are more pressing issues and Thaksin is almost as quiet as Abhisit seems to have gone in the last couple of days. Maybe they are sharing cocktails on a nice Maldives beach or something

I do notice that the pictures on Andrew Spooners page show an Abhisit who really does not LOOK like he's on holiday. I mean when you sit on the beach your more likely to wear shorts and a t-shirt than a business shirt and trousers and well polished shoes

Living in Thonburi wouldn't stop him from popping up in the news every 10 seconds. I haven't seen him for more than a week. As the third PM, I would have expected to at least see him at a couple of news conferences with Yingluck.

Living in Thonburi wouldn't stop him from popping up in the news every 10 seconds. I haven't seen him for more than a week. As the third PM, I would have expected to at least see him at a couple of news conferences with Yingluck.

In the fantasy world that occasionally spins around in my head I would love to see, when this is all over, a press conference with Chalerm gobbing off as per his style and Yingluk just turning round and saying " F#ck off you left me with my arse hanging out to dry during the floods! You're fired! And that goes for my brother too. Cheers Meow! F#ck getting you back. I'm the PM. I'm in charge! I've had enough! What I say goes kapisch?"

Yeah but we are talking about K. Abhisit here. He's so stiff he most probably wears formal evening wear to pop to the 7-11 for a telephone top-up card or a top hat and tails to put the bins out.

It was meant to be a joke. As I said the improving cooperation between the government and army can only be a good thing for the country in the longer term even though coming through such a situation of adversity

Andrew Spooner who is probably best described as a political activist and journalist although his political opinions and agenda are not hidden. Is what he says factual? Who knows, even propoganda can include real facts but with his agenda a certain level of uncertainty would remain. However, in this case he isnt reporting the news but putting into English what Thai Rath reported and he doesnt state it as fact and also includes Khao Sod's alternative of Abhisit being in the UK. Some people on TV forget that the three main English language sources of news in Thailand (Post, Nation, TAN) have very similar political agendas while the majority of the Thai language large circular news is now very different in tone. In some ways it is a shame that there isnt an English langauge news media saying what the most read Thai news sources say as that would give a more nuanced context for foreigners interested in Thai politics.

Perhaps there is an opportunity here for Thai Visa where I'm sure there is a demand for intelligent and nuanced political commentary? But on reflection....

To be fair I have been pleasantly surprised in recent months to see commentary in both the Nation and BP which - how to put it - takes a Guardian/Independent position rather than the usual brain dead Daily Mail position.

TAN in my view is a lost cause.

All I've found is news about the rumours that he was in the Maldives. I haven't seen anything that stated that he was anywhere else.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, who supervises the Royal Thai Police, will attend a meeting with the Police Commission today to finalize the police position reshuffle.

Today, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, in charge of police affairs, will preside over the meeting of the Police Commission at the Royal Thai Police Office scheduled for 1.30 P.M.

The nation stating that a democrat source admitted Abhisit was in the Maldives and that Abhisit hadnt denied it takes the claim further than Spooner suggested. The Nation goinmg further than Spooner on negative claims about Abhisit. That must be a first. I missed the story in Thai Rath, so am not sure how that was framed. Yingluck was asked by journos about the Yanni thing so I expect journos will question the leader of the opposition too.

Indeed where is Banharn? He seems to have gone quiet since rabbiting on about saving Suphan Buri and in doing so upsetting many in neighbouring provinces who believe he personally locks up the keys to floodgates and thereby causes them to suffer.

I don't even know why they're making a big fuss out of all this. He's no longer the PM, whatever help he gives is voluntary and it no longer is his "duty" to manage the crisis. Sometimes I think he should just give up being a politician and let the Thais solve their own mess with the elected government. Sometimes it's better to just go with the flow. The people who step back and look at the big picture can find their way out of the country somehow if they don't like it. One day, we'll be able to say "Som namna" and I would enjoy every syllable of it.
