3 Questions About The Floods ...

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I just read this morning's paper:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/507450-bangkok-braces-for-unstoppable-flood-waters/

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/507669-bangkok-residents-advised-to-start-storing-tap-water/

It seems like things are getting a lot worse. But there are a few things I'm a little unclear on, partly because I don't really understand the districts system and partly because I don't really understand the expected flood path.

1) Will Huay Kwang be flooded?

2) Will Thong Lo be flooded?

3) Will internet / electricity be shut down in Bangkok, even in areas that aren't being flooded yet?

4) At what point will Ekamai buses be unable to leave? E.g. If I decided to get out of Bangkok and stay in Pattaya for a couple weeks, what's the latest time I could make that decision?

Thank you,

- Derek

Nobody knows. If you find an 'authoritative' source better than the government (it could hardly be worse) than please post here! :P

Why Pattaya. How would you be better off there?

eh..? Because if Bangkok was flooded and Pattya wasn't then he'd be where the flood wasn't. That's kind of obvious...

I was thinking that whatever fooding there might be to come in Bangkok might be a lesser concern than lack of food, water, power, fuel, etc and Pattaya seems to be in no better position than Bangkok in those respects.Bangkok is already feeling the effects on food and water supplies, the same as Pattaya I understand, and without (yet) any serious flooding either.

I was in Ko Samet / Rayong this weekend and there was really no shortage down there. They still have bottled water, ramen noodles, etc.

Also my work is completely online, so if electricity gets shut down in Bangkok *and* I can't get out due to bus lines being flooded, that could really screw me over.

So I'm going to Pattaya primarily because I don't want to get stuck in a no-internet city.

That's fair comment. I was thinking in general terms but you have a good particular reason.

I suppose the main potential reason would be to escape any widespread water-borne diseases in Bangkok. The situation has never got to that extreme stage in previous Bangkok floodings and let's hope it doesn't this time.

Don't forget there is still a chance Bangkok might escape widespread flooding.

Was thinking of heading down tomorrow for a couple of days but think I will stay on in the Mai for a little bit longer.

Noticed Thai and Air Asia are fitting floats on to their aircraft...trying to tell us summit?
