What happens to all the stuff that people refuse to pay tax on? Does it slip into the pockets of the officials?

I guess I'm about to find out. I refused the second package. 211 baht; I forgot what the total value listed was and I didn't get copy of any paper. I'll see what the shipper has to say, as they have been notified and will be paying.

Paying the tax is not the problem. I need to verify it is legitimate. That is the problem. Maybe the shipper should just list a lower estimated value, regardless of whether educational materials or not?

So much ignorance and complaints about importing items. Do your homework on what you will have to pay on that item look up the tariff code and see.

It's not rocket science and then when it turns up you don't get a nasty surprise. Secondly if Fedex, UPS, DHL etc. class the item wrong you can contact their clearance department to get the code and amount amended easily done it many times. Problem is the ignorance of the importer in the law and the duties.

Also EMS does not escape duties etc. Mainly depends on the value whether they pounce on your package.

Simply educate yourself on what is due on the item you importing.....And then should they class it wrong which does occasionally happen you inform them and it is amended.

Or use a shipper such as shipito.com and you declare the customs value.

Although the shipper is supposed to be looking into this, can you please advise what website(s) you use to look up different tariff codes to find out the correct one to use?

Thank you :)
