2011 Flood - Showing The True Color And Nature Of Thai People

Featured Replies

When all the jokes and criticism of the Government's handling of the flood crises are said and done, I still think the ongoing flood situation is showing the true color and nature of Thai people.

Having watched a lot of Thai TV recently it is refreshing to see how well Thai people cope with the situation and still are in high spirit, despite the confusion, miss information and personal losses. Sure, there have been small skirmish between people up- and down-stream of flood barriers, but no major conflicts and reports of looting.

At aid stations people line up and wait patiently in queues. No shouting, no pushing, no demanding just the familiar sabai-sabai smile.

I think in a time like this, Thai people should be proud of themselves, their culture and values. What a great country we live in.

Thai people at the lower strata are community orientated so this shouldn't be a surprise. That's how poor communities manage to survive. If you go higher up the chain though you see a lot of selfish attitudes though. Especially when the "hi-so" are involved.

So if you're nice it means you're oppressed? Can't people just be.....nice? I happen to think Thai people are generally decent people, and their response to the floods shows it.

being nice gets u nowhere in Thailand

While those that can afford it,have done a runner South.

Yep, the good along with the price gougers.

Echo above; they can be fantastic, but there are also some right selfish low-lives out there that would do anything to accumulate baht, as we have seen. Yes, it happens everywhere, but the hypocrisy (claim to be Buddhist) is sickening.

Sounds like you'd fit right in here at thaivisa.com, but not sure about out in the normal non-cynical-farang Thailand.

NO LOOTING???? People who evacuate their houses expect to be looted. It's what happens. There must be tens of thousands of cases of looting!!
