Drunk driver blamed for serious road accident close to Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- Five men who had been drinking to celebrate receiving their monthly salary checks were involved in a serious road accident just before daybreak on Friday. Police and rescue services were called to the Sukhumvit Road in Na-Jomtien to deal with the single vehicle road accident involving a black Toyota Soluna. They were confronted with a chaotic scene with injured passengers strewn across the road. One of the passengers appeared to have very serious injuries and we understand he is currently in a critical condition at the Queen Sirigit Hospital in Sattahip. The driver of the car, Khun Sarort aged 23, explained to us that the group had gone to the Maptaput area in Rayong for a night out to celebrate their salary payments and all drank heavily throughout the evening. On the way back to Pattaya, all passengers fell asleep leaving the driver without any form of stimulation to keep him awake. He then fell asleep at the wheel
