Photographs In Bangkok Airport

Featured Replies

Hi,

When I left Bangkok airport a couple months ago everyone was being subjected to being told to go stand in front of a camera and their picture being taken. Does anyone know if this is still happening? If so, does anyone know what they are using the pictures for? Maybe they are just keeping them in their own database for whatever reason but the other thing is that they could be running, or trying out facial recognition systems. If so, is this only the Thailand database or would it be a wider scope than that and that they are connected to another countries database maybe? It wouldn’t be possible for them to be connected to every database in the world so I was just wondering which one they are, if any.

I know that when you now pass through Aranya Prathet (Cambodia) the passport is scanned and is electronically sent to the US for whatever reason – probably just to add to their ever growing database of people living overseas!!! Just another sign of BB (Big brother) throwing his weight around and wanting to rule the world.

When we returned home (BKK) a couple of weeks ago I had to have my pix taken. They said it was a one time thing and from now on when we came back to BKK it would not be done again. When we left for the States in August they did not take my pix. This is the first time that I learned that they were taking pix of both entering and exiting. Big Brother?

It's so that they have a face to go with your 'profile' in the database of all people entering (or who have entered) the kingdom. Apparantly, its only for use within Thailand but will be made available to any international police etc etc. This info according to the guy at the desk.

Don't forget to smile!

me 2.

me.3. Is it just for foreigners? My daughter( Thai pp) had to have her pic taken as well on entry.

I entered the country this week and they didn't take my picture. It was very busy at the time, though.

They have several of my pictures. Most of them with me and my daughter, and conversly my daughters pic has my ugly mug in it too :o

they dont always ask ya to look into the camera, theres a little joystick behind the desk to move it :o

Just went through on my way out of country at Don Muang.

They did not take as I believe they take it once and as it is recorded in their system, when they scan your passport, the data + the picture pops up on their screen with your history of in/out of the Kingdom
