We stay at Chiang Rai and wish to make a day trip to the Golden Triangle and spend as much time as possible there but return to sleep at Mae Sai.

Is it easy to do it on our own with public transport ?

How much will it cost per person if we join a tour group in Chiang Rai ? Will the return trip pass Mae Sai if we wish to get off there ?

How long is the bus trip from Chiang Rai or Mae Sai ?

HealthCare.... Check this option of Mini-Van new service going to Mae Sai and to Chiang Sen by the Green Bus Company.

Trips to Golden Triangel or Me Sai are about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hour from chiang rai or return.

Think they leave from the Old Bus terminal in the old part of Chiang Rai city about every 30 minutes.

They may also go from Chiang Sen to Mae Sai.

Worth looking into.. fares to the golden triangle per person are only about 50 baht.

Just smoke some opium and you can be anywhere in the world without going anywhere.

Looks like getting there is easy but I can't find information on how much time is needed there to see the Opium Halls and do the boat trip.

Anyone know what time is the last bus to return to Mae Sai or Chiang Rai ?
