cardholder
A friend is going to the UK next month and wants to register his son's birth whilst over there. He has the Thai birth certificate and English translation. Does this need to be certified/notorised and are any other documents required. He plans to take his son (and GF) to the UK in late 2012 and I have suggested that he gets a British passport whilst he is in the UK. What documents does he need to submit the application in the UK ? PattayaParent
He'll need his own birth certificate in 'long form'. But he can register the birth at the Embassy here, it costs the same as doing it in the UK where it has to be done in London. Edit: to register child http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/eligibility/children/ I think the documents needed to apply for a passport in UK are the same as overseas. 7by7
Edit: to register child http://www.ukba.home...ility/children/ Sorry, but that is the wrong link. It explains how to obtain British nationality for a child living in the UK who was not born British. Basically, it's the same as naturalisation. To register the birth of a British citizen in Thailand see How to register a birth. To obtain a first British passport for a child in Thailand, see How to apply from Thailand (First time applications)
PattayaParent
^sorry about that but it is confusing as there is a section that tappears to be relevant http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/eligibility/children/britishcitizen/bornabroad/ He would be better to get the passport in UK as it will be cheaper and should be quicker if he states the child is leaving in a couple of weeks. 7by7
Except that if the child does not have a British passport and so is traveling on his Thai passport he will need the appropriate visa to enter the UK; which will have to be paid for. For applying in the UK, see The application form, fee and supporting documents for a child passport. A first child passport costs £49 for standard service and £96.50 for the one-week Fast Track service. The Premium service is not available
PattayaParent
Shi_t, they now charge a fast track fee!!! I guess gone are the days when I could walk into my local passport office first thing in the morning, do a bit of shopping and head to the pub for lunch then collect the passport in the afternoon on my way home.
