Maybe this is a one off, but I just flew BKK-Dubai this morning on an Emirates flight and it was pretty empty.

The flight was less than 20% full. In rows 22-34 (130 seats), there were only 24 passengers. The plane was more like a sleeping flight, most people had 3 or 4 seats to themselves.I always fly Emirates out of BKK and would estimate around 95% full usually, different flights, different times of day.

I wonder if tourist numbers have sudenly dropped because of the floods but woud have thought that return flights would still be up there in numbers.

If this is the case, it kinda contrasts with the tourism minister saying the floods are having no effect

A Thai government minister stating the oppsoite of teh truth is hardly surprising.

But it could just be that the flight are empty because nobody is leaving.

There's probably been thousands of guys 'phoning their companies from a bar in Pattaya saying 'sorry boss, I can't make it back to work 'cos of the floods'

The wife works for Emirates. Many flights from Bangkok-Dubai flying with under 50% this month, especially the morning flight at 09:35. Not that unusual as it is Dubai-Bangkok that is always fuller at this time of year with people heading for holidays in SE Asia and even Australia, since EK do a BKK-SYD leg too. I'm checking flights for later this month from Dubai-Bangkok and they're not as booked up as they usually would be. Around 80% of capacity.

I booked a flight withEva Air back in July from Heathrow to BKK because I thought Christmas would be busy.My flight was for Wednesday 21st Dec at 9.20 pm,last Friday I recieved a phone call from Opodo(who I booked the flight through) to say that flight had been cancelled because the flight was not full enough and I could now either go on the 20th or the 22nd.

Having rebooked for the 20th I called Eva Air to see if I could get aisle seats which I had requested on the original flight, and when I asked the girl if there was any chance of aisle seats she said " there are plenty where would you like to sit". So it seems there is empty seats on that flight to.

Intruiging given the current cost of fares to Bangkok over the Xmas period. Cheapest I could find a fortnight ago were around £950 return. That's LHR-BKK.

Maybe someone can shed some light....

Remains more or less the same. I think there could be some bargains floating around soon as they can only amalgamate so many flights, surely given the current situation there will be massive over capacity this Xmas ?

No time to take it up even if that were the case unfortunately. Although I will have to pop over once or twice early 2012, our family summer holiday ticket prices are remaining quite high, the early bird certainly ain't getting the worm at the moment.

the fact that it is the eid al-adha holiday in the middle eastern muslim countries just now may account for low bookings - most arabs will be with their families enjoying themselves at home, not traveling abroad.

eid mubarak!
