Hi,

I just received a non-O Education visa from Vientiane in Laos....the process was very simple as I had all the required paperwork etc.

Just a couple of observations:

- double entry tourist visa ARE still being issued there (a girl I met just got one - previously she had only one 30 day visa exempt stamp)

- Mondays are VERY BUSY - you can expect to wait 2-3 hours

- Closing time is 12.00 to apply for visas. People turned up at 12pm and were still let in and still got the visa after 12.30 (most people had nearly gone by then)

- Lots of farang turn up, grab a ticket from the machine and STILL proceed to jump the queue - the desk clerks don't seem bothered by it

- Remember to SIGN every page of your photocopied passport pages - the amount of people that had to leave the queue to do that was staggering

By the way it was a single entry non-o which means I get 90 days permission to stay which can be extended every 90 days for 1,900 baht at the local Thai immigration.

Actually it means you get only one entry for one up to 90 day stay. Any extensions of stay will require supporting paperwork from school and any exit of Thailand will require a re-entry permit.

Rather than start a new topic, I thought I'd just add to this one.

I received a Non Imm "ED" visa from Vientiane on Wednesday, 7 December.

As above, the school I registered with obviously supplied me with all the required documents, as the application went through without question.

As I posted in another thread, the staff there were turning away everyone who hadn't copied the two current exit & entry stamps (Thai exit stamp & Laos Visa on Arrival), sending them upstairs to copy & sign those two pages and bring their stuff back to the window. Maybe this is what all the farangs were doing when hinhua was there...

Just got my Non imm ED-visa this week as well from vientiane (single entry)

needed my passport, paperwork from school, 2000 baht, signed copies of info page of passport, page with laos entry stamp, copy of laos visa and departure card, 2 pictures.

showed up at 8am. they opened the gates at 8.30, i got queue number 20 and was out at 9.30. I saw people with queue numbers of 95 etc. they showed up after gates were opened.

the touts can't get queue numbers anymore. the consulate stuff hand them out one by one and also put the number on your application so you can't jump queue

my paperwork was browsed through in 30 seconds as I had everything in order (it took some people 5mins) and i was off to pay. one woman was rejected for having too many visas in her passport. i assume she was applying for tourist visa. i left before seeing what happened to her eventually.

next day i showed up at noon (they open at 1pm). already about 15 people waiting. got my passport back only couple of mins after gates opening
