I have absolutely eliminated the mosquito problem around my house with Mosquito Dunks. The damned things are awesome and totally non-toxic to everything except mosquitoes. They release a microscopic parasite that attacks, inhabits and kills mosquito larvae. Unfortunately, I had to import the Dunks from the States.

If anybody can find a source for these in Thailand, at a price that does not require me to undergo anal rape, I will pay a cash reward for the information. I cannot for the life of me understand why the Thai government is not pushing a program of mass production of this stuff instead of promoting the ubiquitous spraying of toxics that kill all the honey bees and everything else that comes in contact with it. Oh wait, I know the answer: That would require both reason and planning – and oh yes, change.

Funny, there were millions of mosquitoes around my wife's family's house when I arrived. They had always lived with them and considered them a fact of life. Then I came and said, "No fuc_king way!" I did a lot of research, then attacked them on all fronts by: eliminating the father-in-law's many pots of standing water, putting covers on those barrels he just could not do without, adding a dose of used motor oil to every old tire lying around, general clean-up of anything that could hold water and, most importantly, by putting Mosquito Dunks in the bathroom water reservoirs. And, voila, the mosquitoes are gone. All the family is amazed at my unbelievable and godlike feat, although I did nothing the local clinic had not told them to do (except the Mosquito Dunks). If I were to leave, I have no illusions that my management program would disappear with me, and the mosquitoes would be back in force.

What many people don't know is that most mosquitoes do not travel more than about 100 meters from their birthplace. Some go further and some blow on the wind, but the further you get from an actual source the lower the population goes – exponentially. So while our neighbors continue to be infested with the demons, we have virtually none. And the few that do show up are NOT allowed to breed.

By the way, the Mosquito Dunks were critical to my program because most house mosquitoes breed in the Thai bathrooms. Take a flashlight and check the water. You will see it writhing with larvae. You can't very well poison the water. You either have to dump it once a week or use Mosquito Dunks. As one of our bath water tanks holds around 800 to 1,000 liters, dumping it every week was simply not an option.

I purchased the Dunks on the Internet, had them shipped to a friend in the U.S for reshipment to me by Post. If you are traveling from the US, beware, TSA (Transportation Security <deleted>) stole Mosquito Dunks from my sister's luggage even though the EPA sheet declaring their safety was attached.

I've never seen those and don't know how they work but I'll try anything

Are those from your country or have you seen them in Bangkok?

The product pictured by the OP is made in the United States. Here is a description taken from an Internet ad:

Kills mosquito larvae for 30 days! Mosquito Dunks have been used by professionals for more than a decade and have proven their value in destroying mosquitoes - by killing the larvae before they mature into biting adults.

Made with Bt-israelensis (Bt-i), a highly specific biological pesticide, this product represent a major breakthrough for people and the environment when compared with the traditional toxic chemical approach to mosquito control. Will NOT harm people, pets, wildlife or fish. To learn more about Bt-i, click here for reference information from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Easy To Use:

Once a month place wherever water accumulates around your home - you'll be rid of mosquitoes for the whole season. Each Dunk will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth. They may also be broken in half to treat smaller areas. Great for use in water gardens, flower pots, bird baths, rain gutters and decorative ponds!

Very interesting topic! I think one could get super rich producing this kind of product here in Thailand ... Imagine right now with the flood in Bangkok!

While googling I came to the conclusion that this product is nowhere available in Thailand >> what a shame! But don't despair, I found this link which could solve the problem for many people living in the country side like me.

If the website doesn't come up, just put this line in your browser >>> http//www.ehow.com/way_5963102_homemade-mosquito-larvae-killer.html
