Hi There,

Unfortunatley due to newely enforced rules, it seems I will not be able to obtain my visiting friends o visa in Hull, UK as before. I am now in a position where I plan to fly back to thailand early January on a 30 day visa waiver, get married to long term gf straight away and plan a trip to Savannakhet for a multiple entry marriage o visa. As far as I am aware this should be reasonably straight forward. As I understand I will need the following:

Passport & Copy

Passport Photo x 2

Original marriage Cert 2&3 & Copies

Copy of Wife ID signed

Copy of Wife House Book signed

Visa Fee

Is there anything I have missed and should I expect any hiccups?

Thanks in advance,

Gareth

Why not get a tourist visa it will give you more time to sort things out and you might, I said might, be able to convert/extend it for marriage purposes in Thailand. I'm not sur about the regs, but someone who knows will answer soon..

I am pretty sure you could get a tourist visa, convert that to a non-O at immigration within Thailand and then extend that by up to 1 yr by reason of marriage, providing you meet the financial criteria.

Agreed. After your wedding, the conversion of a tourist visa to a non-O visa at your local immigration office and subsequent one-year extension of stay should be a routine procedure, if you meet the financial requirements. Otherwise, by all means go to Savannaket for the multiple-entry non-O visa.

Thankyou very much for the replies, some really good news there too!

With regard to the financial requirements, I have a monthly income over 40,000 bht, however this is pais monthly into a UK bank, not a thai bank. I then withdraw on my UK ATM as evidence. Will they exept a years worth of original UK bank statements as proof of income?

Thanks again

If you are using a bank deposit it has to be in a Thai bank, but if you are using monthly income it does not. What you will need is an "Income Affidavit" from your Embassy stating what your monthly income is and it has to be over 40000 baht/month. I don't know what your embassy requires as proof of income, maybe someelse who reads this does , or contact the embassy direct.

They would only accept a letter from the UK Embassy and you would have to present supporting documents to them (and immigration if asked). As to what Embassy would accept that you would have to ask them.

Remember the runaround you will have to get the documents prepared for the marriage, that will take about 3 days, so best get that Tourist visa then convert in Thailand, you can get a letter from the Embassy if you have a letter confirming your income from overseas.

For the letter from your employer, just get them to state on it how much you earn per month, after tax deductions, should be over the 40,000baht, then take this to the Embassy (make sure it is the original), the Embassy will make a letter of income for you. Also take your passport for proof of Identity, cost of letter 2250baht.

Your list above is missing the letter from your wife asking for a visa to be granted.

ok thanks guys,

my income is based on rental properties owned by myself. I have e-mailed the embassy asking what proof will be required. Does anyone know if the following will be sufficient:

1 Years personal and business bank statements

COPY of UK company reg cert

Letter from accountant confirming yearly income after tax

Thanks
