worgeordie Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I live in Chiang Mai, and yesterday I bought some very good smoked bacon, a really nice oak flavor, and it did not shrivel up when fried as most Thai bacon does, maybe the best bacon I have had in Thailand. On the lable it states it is made by Salungkham Restaurant ,Chiang Rai, I have a daughter at M.F.U. ,so I visit Chiang Rai regularly ,and I am always looking for decent places to eat, while I am up there, So I would be grateful if anyone who knows Salungkham Restaurant and has eaten there ,could give a report on type of food they serve and the quality, as I am only going on how good their bacon is, Last time I was up there, I followed the recommendation of this forum and tried the Teak Cafe near to M.F.U. ,and pleased to report it was very good food and value for money. Thanks for your time, and if you can recommend any other good places to eat in Chiang Rai ,I would be grateful. regards Worgeordie
sceadugenga Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 If you're here on a Sunday try the buffet lunch at Le Meridien hotel.
pomchop Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Rico's has very good pizza, falang, and Thai food in nice environment for bargain prices. Just across from the Chiang Rai Condotel and open Tues through Sat from 2 pm onwards. Run by a delightful swiss guy Rico and his excellent Thai staff.
Limbo Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 . . . . . Thanks Worgeordie for your question! I was rather surprised to hear this excellent restaurant, at least its meat products, mentioned by a foreigner. The Salungkham can not be compared to the Teak House, it is a different style. But I would not be surprised if those who can appreciate the good taste of the Teak House will also be able to enjoy this specific culinary adventure. The Salungkham Restaurant is situated next to the Catholic Church of Chiang Rai. For more information, also about the exact location, please find my answer in the restaurant thread of this forum: Limbo PS: rather funny that I explained the location of the Catholic church five years ago by referring to this restaurant: "The big wooden roofed entry to the premises is next to Saloon Kham, one of the best Thai barbeque restaurants in town". Helps a lot I suppose that the difference in spelling isn't relevant. Even then the restaurant (and its meatshop) is worth a visit!
