I am planning to travel to Tland in the near future and want to spend a couple months then return for a couple months before re-entering Thailand. Can I do this with a double entry?

A double entry Visa generally has to be used within 6 months.

Each entry is 60 days and each entry can be extended by a further 30 days at immigration.

If you return for a few months, why not get 2 separate tourist visas?

yes you can have a gap between the entries.

but if they only issue with a 3 month validity, then it will expire before you come back .

ask the embassy if they issue 6 month validity .

the validity starts from date of issue not date you enter thailand.

What's the 'couple of months' you plan to spend, and the gap between the trips? Two months or twenty months?
