Dear Steve

I am an English lawyer, having worked in HK for 16 years, came to Samui last year, and have just started my own law firm with my Thai partner, having previously worked for one of the top firms in Samui. We are associated with a top HK law firm, and we have associates on the mainland. We believe that we have contacts second to none in Samui.

My office is in Bophut, just off the ring-road. As with all law firms in Samui, we specialise in those matters you listed in your email. The office has just opened, although we have as yet done zero advertising (after Christmas). My staff are all excellent English-speakers (and not pigeon).

So far as I am aware, I am the only English qualified lawyer practising in Samui. I worked as a solicitor in Newcastle and London before leaving for HK.

In my view, the top firms in Samui are Kitt and Murray, Roberts and Gerrard, and Pensit and Laws, in order only of expense (having checked their 'shopping list' of fees). Our overheads are lower and thus so are fees. As a new firm, I can offer an introductory package. I can promise however the same level of service, if not better. I am not the type of lawyer who turns his phone off after 7pm.

We are thinking of opening a branch office in KP, as it happens. My staff have good experience of KP land deals, with good contacts in KP itself.

Any of the firms listed in this email will give you good service. If you are interested in my firm, PM me for further details, or email me on [email protected]. I will incidentally be over in KP next Thurday or Friday if you want to meet for a coffee/beer and discuss.

Best Regards

Mike Peart

Finding a good lawyer is pretty tough to achieve in Thailand let alone Samui or kpn..... I must have met with pretty much all of the lawyers here now .... its a real frustration...

There are a couple of good people who are honest which is a start, and my advice would be to set a couple of days aside and go and meet a bunch and decide who you feel comfortable with. Then test them with one case rather than get too entrenched with them.....

Manit Associates was the best full time Samui lawyer I found and Sukhothai Interlaw seem very good if you deal with their senior partner in BKK ......

I saw the post below, see K&M if you like, I did in BKK and they did not impress at all, in fact one of their more senior staff was clueless..... I am sure that will get a reply…. just be careful, I have seen a lot of hopeless legal advice here and there is no such thing as recourse, professional indemnity etc so your on your own if you need to take action against them

Hope this helps and if you find someone you really rate please post their details

Manits definitely part of the good guy club and helped us 5 years ago when we lived on Samui.

Glad to hear he's still there and has developed a reputation. He's OK in my book!

Hi,

I can't tell you a good lawyer on the Islands but I can warn you off from one in particular who took me for a ride at the end of January, I won't go into detail but basically I lost about 100,000 baht to this woman. She is based in thong sala on phagnan and her name is Kai. :o

Stay away from her!
