Too bad no photos of the inside. Both these models picture are supposed to released in Thailand before the end of 2011 (coming soon). April is when 3.2L and 4x4 versions of the new ranger will be sold in Thailand. All of these models are already on sale in Australia except for the 3.2L 4x4 wildtrak.

I saw the new Mazda a few days ago. Damm Ugly in my opinion but that will appeal to a lot of buyers. Just looks Big & Boffy in style . Both the Ford and Mazda are getting great reviews in Oz . However it looks, you should be basing a decision to buy on more factors than appearence alone so it will do well..

At least the New Mazda looks different.. Inside and out.

Lot of new D-Max on the road, Looks OK but a quick glance could be a Vigo or the present Ranger..

Cannot figure out why? all the new models appear to get bigger in size, road are over crowded, yet cars and pickups get bigger over the years..... Just because there are lots on the road, just look at the 1990's Mazda pickup size, or the Honda Civic of the same year.

The BP today just reported the new Ranger 4x4 3.2l will be 1.1 million baht.

Yep, I read the review too. Here is the link

http://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/autoreview/267192/pickup-overlord

1.1 million baht for the 4 x 4 Wildtrak is an absolute bargain. In Australia it is going to be somewhere in the region of the equivalent of 1.8 million baht!

I just read the article. As a side note, more evidence that there is really something wrong with Bangkok people: ;) " To cut to the chase, buyers with a million baht to spare for a second or third vehicle in their garage should take a good look at the Ranger. Here's why. "

Why on earth would a top-spec, 4 door, 5 seater pick-up only be an option as a third or second vehicle? Is there anything on the planet that a top spec Corolla or Civic (costing a similar amount) does better? Especially at a time when all of those small passenger cars have been found seriously wanting whenever there's more than a foot of water on the roads?

Comment on the vehicle itself: The tires used for the 4x4 Wildtrak look really small. Maybe that's just optically the case as the vehicle is a bit bigger than current generation pick-ups, but for anything off-tarmac I think I would prefer beefier tires. (Or maybe Ford knew that they would be giving the test vehicle to some Bangkok journo pussies, so fitted it with the vanilla-est road tires they could find for a quieter, comfortable ride? Can anyone confirm those are the actual standard tires?)

Big chunky tires doesn't always equate to better off road handling, take the the land rover defender for instance, stock with ice skating shoes but gets the job done well.

Still unsure of what tires they will fit but Continental tires has been the rumor and what they're getting in Aus. All the reports from Aus say the stock tires are the best for all round use.

I can't make out the tires in the pictures from the media day but they don't look a million miles away from these;

The wildtrak Tire size on the 4x4 is 265/60/18 which is the biggest wheel and tire combo offered by anyone.

The miss conception that bigger tires means better off road handling ability is a common miss conception people have here in Thailand that have no clue about off roading. 99% of the 4x4's sold here never see anything more than an unpaved street at times, and would hurt themselves if they ever did did into a situation where the four wheel drive actually had to be used. The tires that come stock on 4x4s' here are very acceptable and there is no need for anything more. The few people who do know something about being off road and do have the ability to differentiate asphalt from dirt know what tires will work for them and will change them out accordingly. I run a Fortuner on construction sites in soft sand, mud and water at times just as much as I run on the road and have no problem with the stock tires. You would be surprised at how many situations you can get out of by just adjusting your tire pressure. The need for over sized tires here in Thailand is usually matched with the over sized Ego of the owner of the vehicle.

You're completely correct for sand; that's why you typically see just wide but non-spikey tires on 4WD vehicles in beach areas; you'd want to stay on top of the stuff, not dig into it. It's different for the red clay roads in the North though after some rain. If you look at the Royal Project 4WD trucks they have thin but large diameter tires with some major threading on them. Those are actually designed to dig in, and reach the harder stuff below the mud. But that of course doesn't work in deep sand; you'd just dig in and get stuck.

Anyway, looking at the first picture (the white wildtrack) it looked a bit small visually; I'm sure they come with high enough tires.

One of the T6's should be on display today in the Airport Plaza...they are big and powerful, but the engines are quite economy...the test drive showed the 2.2L doing almost 20km/L !! In "normal" use they still do 12-14,depends on driving habits...

My wife went out with another woman today to see the Isuzu V-cross 4x4 3.0l AT Double Cab (4 door) which is the top model. She came back with a price list from the dealer, which they said was an updated list. She already had one from three weeks ago. The new price list from the dealer had the top model Isuzu pickup (v-cross) listed for 1,059,000. 1.058 million baht!!! Three weeks ago the same models price was 998,000. Another pickup over a million baht.

Agree with what you are saying Funcat, though you can't roll your eyes posters for what they are being told from dealers up and down the country.

Seems like a nationwide bullsup by Ford at the moment.

well, the link does not say 3.2 L...or does it?

Impressive now if they would just put the steering wheel on the other side they would have a great vehicle.

Just what the world needs a bigger vehicle to consume more fuel and add to carbon monoxide. They have the technology to lesson up the impact instead they turn it into making it bigger. My wife dosen't drive Have no kids here therefore why would I need three vehicles? I suppose when you have money you have too flaunt it.

Actually if statistics are anything to go by, the ranger 3.2 supposedly uses about the same amount of fuel as my honda civic 2.0 - roughly 9-10 km/l - that's the outskirts of BKK. I suspect the ranger will use a little more than my civic, but probably not by much; the 2.2 could be even more frugal.

I found the fuel stats for the new ranger searching the internet. The only difference for normal driving is .6, Australia fuel stats have the 3.2L 10 km/l and the 2.2L is 10.6 km/l.

Those are atrocious figures.. almost can't be right. 10 year old Isuzu does 16 km/l around Chiang Mai if you put in a little effort.
