Hello all,

This is just a topical thread. I was wondering if anyone had any input on this matter? Considering the terrible flooding in BKK currently, one would presume there must have been a significant rise in aplications. Does this meen that UK border control would change there protocol in any way to cull the increased applications, or indeed (on the other side of the coin) not be so fastideous about them? Just a thought?

Kind regards

I don't see why the flooding in Thailand would cause an increase in UK visa applications.

However, even if it were so, all UK visa applications are assessed on their own merits by using the immigration rules and entry clearance guidance. These haven't changed; although they are, of course, subject to change by the government at any time, as the current topic on family migration shows. There is no 'cull' nor quota.

The only effect the flooding has had that I am aware of is the occasional closure of the UKVAC due to staff shortages and a possible delay in processing due to entry clearance officers at the embassy being seconded to other work, e.g. assistance for British nationals, during the emergency. Although current reports from members whose applications have been successful show that the processing times can currently be counted in days rather than weeks.

Of course, if the situation in Thailand were to deteriorate to such an extent that a humanitarian disaster was occurring, then I am sure that the UK would be willing to accept it's fair share of refugees (sits back and awaits flames!); but that is very unlikely to happen.

Fiancé / settlement visa processed this month. 4 days. So not really affected by the floods. If anything people may have delayed submission of their applications because they thought the floods might be a problem. Meaning less applications to process, quicker turn around time.
