PM DECLINES TO TALK TO MEDIA

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinnawat (ทักษิณ ชินวัตร) continues to remain silent and not give interviews for the second day, after announcing that he will temporarily suspend the "Prime Minister meets the Press", organized every Thursday, until next year. Prime Minister Thaksin arrived at the Government House to carry out his duties this morning, but he refused to talk to the media about discussion with the head of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) at the Government House today.

The premier is also scheduled to discuss with the committee on procuring computers and high-speed internet for education this afternoon. In addition, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad will call on Prime Minister Thaksin at Ban Pitsanulok (บ้านพิษณุโลก) at 5 PM today.

So the planets arn't in the right spots, can't talk till next year.

Absolute joke. The leader of a country of 70m people has absolutely no right to be silent for that long. It is impossible to take this person seriously. He is now facing the biggest problems of his premiership and he refuses to clarify points which are of great importance to the public and the country as a whole.

He has been in S Korea and was speaking for the last few days, the planets didn't seem to stop him talking then. It wouldn't surprise me if international media pick up on this and make him look even more stupid than he is.

The damage being done to Thailand is huge, the image of Thailand has suffered one blow after another, the zoo menu has put Chiang Mai on the map for all the wrong reasons, and the chance of an FTA with the US all the while being overly friendly with Burma is about as likley as it is Thailand will own Liverpool FC.

What amazes me is just about everything this man does is the worst possible thing. Sueing sondhi just draws public attension to the acusations. Taking the show off air attracts more people to the show. If the house is dissolved it would be almost entirely the PM's own making. Whilst he could have stayed on till the end of the term even with the many faliures now showing of TRT policies, his own actions are speeding up the demise.

Who is reigning this country? Thaksin or Mercurius? It all seemed to have to do with the stand of Mercurius that he again refuses to speak to the press. Well no matter who reigns here Mercurius is after all the God of Commerce . . . so what is the difference?

Quite a nice excuse to avoid press confrontations!

PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN SUSPENDS HIS WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA has cancelled his weekly “Prime Minister Meets the Press” programme on Thursdays, saying the cancellation is not connected with fortune-telling.

Government Spokesperson SURAPONG SUEBWONGLEE (สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี) cited the Prime Minister as saying that he wanted the public and the press to receive precise information from ministers directly responsible for each matter. He quoted the Prime Minister as saying that the people and the press were expecting him to know every matter. Moreover, his answers in the session might not cover all the details that they would like to know.

Besides, the Prime Minister has been suggested by several distinguished people including the Chart Thai Party leader, to give less interviews. The Prime Minister will consider giving the press conference again after the New Year.

Absolute joke.  The leader of a country of 70m people has absolutely no right to be silent for that long.

But it is OK for the leader of a country of 300m people? It is OK for the so-called leader of the free world?

October 04, 2005 It's a sign of how much political trouble President Bush is in that he was willing to hold a press conference, his first since May. Bush is sparing with press conferences - the fewest of any modern president - and tends to hold them only when he has to.

August 9, 2005 ...Bush is perfecting the art of presidential isolation... Since...January 2005... he held four press conferences.

Nov 15 2005...Mr. Bush has become isolated and feels betrayed...maintains daily contact with only four people: first lady Laura Bush, his mother, Barbara Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes....also...has stopped talking with his father, except on family occasions.

As far as the alignment of the planets thing, no one cared much when Reagan was president.

Very funny FXM88 !

But, i doubt you can compare the pressure over Bush with the pressure that our Great Leader fells right now...

And as far as we know, Bush doesn't speak about "planets"... But, I agree we can put this one over the "asian folklore".

The truth is : it's the begining of the end for Thaksin...

Too many scandals around him and because of him...

Well, this news did indeed make the international news.

On CNN.com US edition it's one of the headlines: Thai Leader Has Bad Horoscope

It's hard to believe this isn't a joke.

Agree - together with the recent story of serving endagered species at the Chiang Mai Night Safari (which also made international headlines), it makes Thailand look like one big nuthouse.

Bush telling Thaksin; "If you don't have anything intelligent to say just tell them your planets aren't aligned"...

there are other alignment problems with out the planets - as you will read today bush made a "joke " about bombing al-jazeera news

Bush 'plotted' to bomb al-Jazeera

From correspondents in London

November 22, 2005

US President George W. Bush planned to bomb pan-Arab television broadcaster al-Jazeera, British newspaper the Daily Mirror said today, citing a Downing Street memo marked "Top Secret".

mr 't' has proven in the past when he has claimed that celestial portent requires him to <deleted> , he cannot resist the temptation - he will be inserting both feet , normal programming will resume shortly.

and then maybe the thai media can ask him some serious questions about the EGAT float

Here are a couple of related letters-to-the-Editor from today's Bangkok Post...

http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/22Nov2005_opin27.php

Mercury ...

Prime Minister Thaksin claims that the stars are in the wrong place for him to be talking to anyone, and the culprit is Mercury. Any serious astrologer, Thai or otherwise, will tell you that Mercury is the planet of communication; think Greek messenger of the gods. A positive alignment with Mercury is always a good thing because it does any number of things, like aiding the memory, clearing the thinking, increasing the flow of ideas and so on. Even in a negative aspect it only presents a challenge to be overcome.

On the other hand, when positively inspected it also promotes the telling of the truth and makes telling lies a little more difficult. Of course this couldn't be the reason that Mr Thaksin is avoiding the press.

SERIOUS ASTROLOGER

Bangkok

... and Uranus

The prime minister of Thailand will not speak to the media for more than a month because the alignment of planets is not to his liking. This from a leader who was once touted as the new statesman of Southeast Asia. Thankfully, that's becoming less and less likely.

Mr Thaksin, as one who has expressed repeated concern over the international reputation of Thailand, can you imagine the damage your current behaviour is doing to the reputation of this country? If you can't perform the duties of office, of which communicating with the people plays a major role, then step aside for someone who can. For the good of Thailand, no more pretending, no more excuses, please.

I couldn't find the article that states this but here's the latest news (from a poll on the Nation's homepage):

New poll posted on Thursday

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said he was simply joking about Mercury affecting his astrological sign. Do you think the prime minister believe in the stars?

I think he is superstitious

I think he was joking

IMHO, this is an easy question to answer....he's Thai.
