BANGKOK, Nov 25 -- Bangkok’s flood is gradually withdrawing overall, but close attention is now focused on Bang Khae and Thawi Watthana districts after municipal authorities more widely opened three sluice gates at Khlong Mahasawat for the second day.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Wednesday opened three gates at the canal from the existing opening of 75 cm to 1 metre to more rapidly drain the flood to alleviate the hardship of Nonthaburi residents.

The three sluice gates are at three critical placed canals, Khlong Khun Sri Burirak, Khlong Kwai and Khlong Soi.

Opening gates wider brought water surging into Khlong Mahasawat and worried Bang Khae and Thawi Watthana residents Thursday, who blocked Kanchanapisek Road in protest and urged City Hall and the central government’s Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC) to clarify the policy on the sluice gates.

The protest ended after the BMA officials has promised that if the water level in Bang Khae and Thawi Watthana rises 10 cm within 2 days, the BMA will consider lowering the sluice gates again.

The water level along Khlong Mahasawat embankment is still high, and residents use boats to travel, but water covering Kanchanapisek Road, from Khlong Mahasawat bridge to Bang Khae intersection on Rama 2 Road, has receded and small vehicles can pass.

Meanwhile, no significant impact has been seen from dismantling the big bag barrier at Don Meaung's Directorate of Air Operations Control intersection on Phahonyothin Road.

The BMA has speeded up pumping water from Don Mueang, Lak Si, Sai Mai and the lower line of Khlong Hok Wa as quickly as possible. (MCOT online news)

If that is around the Mall, then the information is wrong because I traveled through that intersection twice today and it's a no go area for small cars.

yes, that area includes the mall, which is at the intersection of thanon petkasem and kanchanpisek (part of the wong wien rob nok - outer western ring rd).

parts of the kanchanapisek dry, but houses around it still flooded around knee deep

I plan to drive from Pattaya to Kanchanaburi next Tuesday. My plan is Outer RIng Road No9 and then turn left on Phet Kasem Road No4. Any advice from residents in that area ??
