Not sure if anyone else has the same problem but I have sent two emails now to Siam-Legal to ask for their help on getting me a Retirement Visa. I got their information for Thaivsa (I persume they are a sponsor of Thaivisa). The first reply came back from a guy (I have his name but won't print it) asking me for more details. I sent them to him. Then I get another email for a different person asking me for the same details that I sent the first guy! So I sent back the required information again to the second guy about 1 week ago - still have not heard from them. Both of these guys have farang names therefore I persume I am not corresponding with Thai nationals. Should I give up on this company. Can anyone advise another company? This is email is not meant to put anyone down - I am just a little frustrated.

Many people obtain a retirement visa by themselves, without the help of agents or lawyers. This forum is a great source of information. Yes, it is a bit more time-consuming to obtain a retirement visa yourself, but most retired people have time available.

Perhaps you can post your details on the forum, like nationality, where you plan to apply for the visa, if you're going to use income or savings to meet the financial requirements, etc and the many helpful regulars on this forum could help you sort it out.

Well said with a retirement extension being the easiest and quickest one to obtain.

As requested please identify which Immigration Office will be used and the way you wish to provide the financial details.

Thanks for the replies.

I will be arriving in Bangkok in 2 months time. I will have the required 800,000 THB. I am arriving on a tourist visa (I am a 60 year old Australian male) which allows me to stay for 30 days only. I only have 30 days to organise things - not confident on how to start the ball rolling. I am sure that I will not be given a Retirement Visa in the first 30 days therefore I will need another visa to start with. I prefer not to do boarder runs but will if necessary. Thanks again for any help/advice you may give me.

A tourist visa would allow 60 day stay so you are planning to arrive without a visa and obtain visa exempt - bad plan as airline may well require a ticket out within 30 days to let you board. It would be much better to contact Honorary Consulate in Brisbane and obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa. That is required for retirement extension of stay. You would then not have issue with airline and be allowed 90 days on entry. That will provide plenty of time to have money in account 60 days for your extension.

Rather than bring cash you should arrange wire transfer ability with your bank and when account set up wire the funds here as they will provide proof of outside source (which could be an issue at any time when using for retirement). The actual extension of stay is very easy and no legal firm is needed. You will find step-by-step or if you need just advise where and people can provide current experience.

Much easier if you arrive in Thailand with a non-immigrant "O" visa obtained from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in Australia. That will give you 90 days to get the 800,000 baht deposited in a Thai bank and apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on retirement from immigration in Thailand.

Extension of stay is very easy to do if you have the correct amount of money in a Thai bank, I have done three extension of stay now and never used a visa lawyer or visa company, they are all very expensive. If you can get Thaivisa to give you my email address I would help you with it, no cost, I have lots of free time and I am Australian. once you know how it is simple.

Thanks for you offer of help. I am in Adelaide and would really like to email you direct. Not sure how to get your contact details - I know that there is a private message system on Thaivisa - never tried to use it. I will start searching and try to contact you that way. Many thanks

The Retirement process is very simple to do.

Thanks LB - I will contact the Thai Consulate in Adelaide on Monday morning. I will set up an appointment to apply for a non-immigrant O visa. Hope they do it in Adelaide and that I can get if before 9th Feb.

It should not take more than a day or two for visa issue and will likely be valid for 90 days from date of issue so if you should have any delay it may already be expired if you get now - wait until mid January would be my advise.

I agree with lopburi 3, don't apply to early, the clock validity starts the day it is issued. However, I would be proactive and contact them soon to see exactly what they require so that you'll have everthing ready.

Yes I will ring the Thai consulate in Adelaide on Monday to find out the requirements for the O visa. It is just a small office and they may not do it here. I suspect that they won't - I may need to go to Canberra.

Shouldn't be a problem, the reason the consulate is there is to issue visas.

You can get the visa through the mail.

No reason why the consulate in Adelaide wouldn't give you an O visa.

Remember when talking to them, you want a Non O visa. NOT a retirement visa. (Non O-A)

As others have said, extensions for retirement are very easy to do yourself.
