Thai PM Hospitalised With Food Poisoning

Thai PM hospitalised with food poisoning

BANGKOK, November 29, 2011 (AFP) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, grappling with a devastating flood crisis, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with food poisoning, her government said.

"She is suffering from diarrhoea due to food poisoning," government spokeswoman Titima Chaisang told reporters, adding that Yingluck had asked her deputy to chair a cabinet meeting in her place.

The 44-year-old leader, the younger sister of fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was a political novice before taking office in August and has struggled to get a grip on Thailand's worst floods in half a century.

The government has faced criticism for its slow response and confusing public advice about the disaster, which has left more than 600 people dead.

At times the mother-of-one has showed signs of strain, appearing teary-eyed at news conferences and describing the crisis as overwhelming, while her political enemies have sought to use the occasion to undermine her popularity.

Yingluck was hospitalised in the early hours of Tuesday morning with diarrhoea, fatigue, abdominal pain and nausea, the deputy director of the Praram 9 Hospital, Athit Jiranaisilavong, told a news conference.

"The doctor administered oral dehydration salts and agreed that she should rest in hospital for a day or two," he said. "We will assess her condition again this evening. So far there are no complications."

Thailand's floods have taken a heavy toll on the economy and the vital tourism sector, still recovering from deadly political unrest last year.

Yingluck has said that central Bangkok is now safe from the floodwaters, which caused widespread damage in areas north of the capital and seeped into the outskirts of the sprawling metropolis.

Her 62-year-old brother Thaksin remains a deeply divisive figure in Thailand. The former telecoms tycoon was ousted in a 2006 coup and lives abroad to avoid a two-year jail sentence for corruption.

Yingluck has faced criticism over reports -- denied by her government -- of plans for a royal pardon that could allow Thaksin to return without serving time.

Yingluck admitted to Rama 9 Hospital for diarrhea treatment

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra suffered from diarrhea and has been admitted to the Rama 9 Hospital, Government Spokesperson Thitima Chaisaeng said Tuesday.

Yingluck assigned her No-1 deputy, Yongyuth Wichaidit, to chair the weekly Cabinet meeting.

did she eat some food meant for the flood victims?

Poetic justice?

So what big decisions will be made whilst she is in Hospital!!!!!

Reminds me of the locked cabinet meeting, when her helicopter could not fly in the evening.

Is this new diarrhea treatment any good, what does it treat? is it like a mud pack treatment?

I get treated for diarrhea!!!!

I was thinking along the same lines. She won't be at the cabinet meeting today, which means Chalerm will again be in charge? What surprises will be in store later this afternoon.

If it is really food poisoning as claimed, where did the food come from? Did she eat alone or with others? Did anyone else get food poisoning?

Wow! What a bunch of happy guys you are! Happy someone is in hospital, because it is "the enemy"? Too bad it's only food poisoning, huh?! You should be ashamed of yourself, to go that low!

Those posts showing happiness at her being in hospital must have already been deleted.

Burberry Sheets.

Accessory or Condition.

So the fluids are exiting her faster than they are exiting Bangkok! Who knows, maybe she will learn about flood management during her stay in hospital !!!

Is there going to be an investigation? I wouldn't be surprised if someone from the Democrats is accused of poisoning her food even without any evidence.

Anyway, this is a funny article, as it's difficult not to imagine Yingluck stuck on the toilet seat excreting watery feces.

Lets see, flow rate is x where as water flow from toilet is y which means she could release so much waste without flooding the toilet. In case excrement exceeds the flow rate of said toilets a small remote control boat should be able to speed the current. Simple use of a hydrologist could ease the pressure on the toilet through mathematical equations, such as speed of flow out of sphincter and the such. Maybe its time they bring in the experts!wink.gif

Well obviously not as the existing posts prove. Must be a lot of contentious posts elsewhere.

The only diarrhea she has is of the verbal variety!

Well, let's just see what deputy PM Chalerm wants to pass at the Cabinet meeting without the PM being present. Maybe amnesty for the Transport Minister..............

Get a life!

I would like to wish the P.M. a speedy recovery. After all running the country is not a fickle matter.

As Buddha said ""All things must pass. Decay is inherent in all things".

How funny! I mean in a suspicious way not a 555 way. At the end of the day as PM the 'buck stops here' and any decisions railroaded through by Chalerm in her absence ultimately fall at her feet. I am unsure why a hand full of senokot wouldn't have bunged her up as it would do the rest of us. Maybe she just needs a rest. Whatever, she will be running out of excuses soon, though she can always rely on the 'period' I guess, something Abhisit could never do. The problem is that whilst these small political games are played within the Kingdom, the politicians forget that the world is watching, and every Ambassador and Charge d'affaires in Bangkok will diligently report back to home about all the antics and the credibility of Thailand's leaders will continue to spiral down the toilet (I thought the end bit there brought my paragraph nicely back on thread wink.gif )

EM balls required..

I think the PM has adequately demonstrated that if there is one (or two) things she doesn't have, its balls.

What a wonderful exciting life it must be to scan Tha Visa everyday hoping to find yet another reason to bash the duly elected PM of Thailand. Wow, Diahrrea...lets all celebrate.

Grow up. Six hundred dead, thousands in filthy water up to their waist for weeks and she complains of a few skid marks in her panties! Fine way to lead the country.

New turn od phrase me thinks ....Thaksin speaks..PTP sh*ts

About being happy she's in hospital?

Was she trying to quash more rumors?

Did Yongyuth get ill, as well?

PM Yingluck Enjoys House Canteen To To Quash 'Bt200.000 A Meal' Rumours

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra lunched at the Government House canteen yesterday to quash rumours that lunches inside her office cost about Bt200,000 a meal.

After chairing a meeting of state agencies concerned with flood mitigation, Yingluck went downstairs to the canteen with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit

Loved the photo of Yongyuth.

He's about ready to puke after having suffered to eat such peasant food.

Agree! Quite juvenile and senseless to express any joy in her or anyone's hospitalization. Actually, the food poisoning thing really needs to be looked at by senior Thai health officials. The sanitary and hygiene conditions around anything and food in particular are appalling for a top tourist destination. No standards, no regulations, no legitimate inspection, no soap, no toilet paper, no paper towels, only that dirty rag folded in front of a sink.
