01322521959
Had an upsetting experience today when I went with my Thai girlfriend to give blood. I have been to the Red Cross donation centre near Silom numerous times, but today I was rejected as I had filled in the form and marked it 'yes' when asked if I had resided in the UK between the years 1980-1996. This rejection was due to the BSE (Mad Cow disease outbreak ) Has anybody got any further information on this? Apparently it has something to do with autopsies which were carried out on UK citizens showing some brain abnormalities. This question has not been asked previously. samran
My understanding is this is a common reason for rejecting blood donors. From memory, Australia has a similar restriction on blood donors who resided in the UK at the same time.
