Flood Eases In Southern Provinces

A stop in torrential rains has eased the flood situation in the southern provinces.

The weather and river tides in Satun Province have improved.

Both Thai and foreign visitors have traveled to the Pak Bara Port to go sightseeing around the islands for the New Year celebration.

Most foreign visitors come from Europe.

Officials are working closely to monitor the sea for safety reasons.

In Narathiwat Province, despite a break in rainfall, a week of torrential downpour caused three main rivers to swell.

They are the Su-ngai Kolok, Bang Nara, and Sai Buri rivers.

The rivers continue to overflow, causing damage to residents' homes along the banks, including homes in Hua Saphan, Tah Korpai, and Tah Chompoo communities.

More than 1,000 residents were affected. Some of them remain in a temporary shelter at the Municipality 4 School.

Three people were confirmed dead as a result of the flooding.

In Pattani Province, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department declared 12 districts disaster zones.

Muang and Nong Jik districts are being closely monitored since there are high levels of floodwater due to runoff from Yala Province, which continues to flow towards Pattani River.

Nearly 20,000 residents have been affected, while the situation in other districts have begun to ease.

Meanwhile, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a severe weather alert for southern provinces for next week from December 1- 4, where a monsoon from the northeast will arrive and cover the southern region and the Gulf of Thailand.

The northeastern monsoon is expected to cause torrential downpours in some areas of Surat Thani Province and provinces to its south.
