Uk Citizenship App

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A quick questing regarding uk citizenship application (spouse of uk citizen.. Thai nationality)

Does the passport need to be sent off for a considerable amount of time when the application is made or is it possible to have certified copies sent instead? It would be nice if we could leave the country when the application is in progress.

Also,

Once citizenship is granted and they apply for a UK passport, I would assume they could leave the country then also on their Thai passport?

Basically, residency requirement is fulfilled in mid March but my wife would like to go home at some point after March but I realise the citizenship application etc is quite lengthy. If anyone has experience I'd appreciate some input!

Many Thanks as always,

Shug

A Thai friend just went through it, took about 10 weeks for the letter to come back confirming that they had passed the requirements, and the Thai passport came back at that time.

There was then a 2 week wait for the invite to book the nationalization ceremony from the local council.

They have not done the UK passport application yet but have the certificate to say they are are a British citizen.

There should be no problems leaving and entering the UK on the Thai passport as long as there is a valid Uk visa inside. The UK indefinate leave to remain visa in the Thai passport was left in place and not cancelled.

Not sure if they would accept copy of the Thai passport but TBH I doubt it.

If you are that worried you could go to Luna house in Croydon, much more stressful option though and the cost is slightly more, or you could use an agent who would go there on your behalf but I understand that is quite expensive.

cheers
