Pigs And The Cold

Featured Replies

So Cold in Udon 3 of our pigs have died :( still fairly young so not so strong yet, lots of other farms around us are loosing pigs to the cold as well. We have put incandescent lights in to try to keep them warm, does anyone have other solutions?

By incandescent globes,do you mean the normal lighting globe or the infrared heating globes.

Normal incandescent globes are solely a light source whereas the infra reds are used for the situation you describe where a heat source is required.

This time of year, rice harvest just finished, rice straw for bedding is a good retainer of heat. The porkers will snuggle together in the straw and wont come out until the sun shines.... Careful with the heat lamp, if using straw bedding.

Hi Barry, my old mate not seen you for a few years as I said to you on facebook are you sure she has not rolled on them ?

Put the heat lamp were the sow can not roll on them in here sleep

how big are they now ? how many KG

There are 10 piglets together without the sow in each pen, this pen they are 30-40kg mark, the larger ones around 80kg havent had a problem, we put a heat lamp in yesterday.
