Anyway I love Thailand and love Phuket, I am patient and very considerate of others at all times, as far as I am aware I have never been ripped off, 2 1/2 yrs driving here and never had a problem with anyone, maybe I am just very lucky!!

you keep reiterating that your courteous and never had a problem here. we understand since the first time you posted this in other threads. were you reincarnated as a parrot?

You have been ripped off many times. just reading back on your old post and.noticed your Mazda 2 thread.

Talk about betting ripped off at some of the prices you paid for part.

Ignorance is bliss.

Ive done that on a few occasions...even down to negotiating taxi fares...I'll hide in the shop and wait till the misses clinches the deal...and then I stroll out of the shop. its priceless to see the look on their faces....better yet, get a Thai bloke to do the negotiating. It is even more covert!!! laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

What a load of rubbish, you hide in a door way then come out to see the persons face, are you serious, a sad way to live your life in Thailand, am I the only one on this forum that has never had a problem here or am I the only one to tell the truth, every time I look at the posts on here I think troll !!

try polishing off the walking stick and getting out for a while

If I felt the need to hide in the shadows and complain continuously it would be time to leave this country, I don't understand why anyone would want to hide in a door way, still up to you and each to there own, just dusting off my walking stick which of course I do not own lol :D

save a seat for me at the 40 baht joint you drink at...sounds lovelyrolleyes.gif

Only time i have felt ripped off or overcharged is when dealing with a foreign owned/run company here.

I feel comfortable only dealing with Thai.

Boycott the ones who can't cut in business back home. easier to operate here where there are no consumers protection laws.

That is so true! These 'businessmen' cant cut it in their own country so they come to Thailand with their time share <deleted>. Or do something amazingly original and open a bar with their hooker wife. And then go on to stitch up their mates.

Thai owned bars are cheaper than farang owned...just look at Tamarind in Chalong....it was 60 baht a beer last time I went there and Porn (Neice of the owner) would always buy a beer for the punters. And please dont anyone in this forum embarrass themselves and try and tell the forum that falang owned joints are cheaper...DOESNT HAPPEN!!!

Plus the food is better in Thai owned places...not <deleted> sandwiches with 7-11 bread and plastic cheese like the falang 'businesses' . Dont get me started on the yacht charters.....some drunk old South African who escaped the country after their country turned to crap, so they buy a yacht and try to 'entertain' their guests by putting around Chalong bay, drunk as 10 men letting their guests know all about their worldy travels to Langkawai......gimme a break!!!

I laugh at a lot expats here who proclaim to be businessmen...try calling yourself that in your home country. Imposter comes to mind

You seem to have many many problems here maybe it is time to leave, today I was drinking small bottles of Leo in a Thai place for 40 bht I fail to see why you have so many issues here!!

Thats the point he was making.

Try getting a 40 baht beer in a farang owned bar.

More chance of seeing Santa Claus and his flying reindeer.

Recently got a kitchen quote from 3 companies, all using hafale fittings and smeg appliances. farang owned company quoted 110k higher than with the 2 Thai companies.

People have a false sense of security with western run companies thinking the quality is better but all they are doing is playing middleman and overcharging.

Yes I understand about the different pricing, they are making a living and it is up to us to say NO!! personally I would not pay 100 bht for a beer, I would not pay 80 bht for a beer, I prefer to pay 47 bht for a big Leo,

You think I was ripped off regarding parts for my ex Mazda 2, you pay for quality or you pay for shish, I prefer quality what do you prefer? :D

Funny you should mention the Parrot as I got one yesterday and it is now hanging outside my house, we have called it Polly as in Polly Parrot!! :D

I have a family so I do not feel the need to frequent girlie bars and pay high prices, I like Thai family run places where the food and drink is very reasonable, the places I go are all family orientated and yes they are lovely!! :D

I cant really go into girly bars either as the missus doesnt drink, did you opt for the ready made family or did you start it yourself?

i mean seriously kenny, you sprout you never have problems here...u must be wrapped in cotton wool. I read in a previous post that you had never seen an accident at Chalong circle pfffft...I see them at least once a week there. I also reckon you would be the sort of bloke that would be ripped off with every transaction but is just too naive to work it out.

BTW Ive been to all the neighboring countries and Phuket still is the best place to live by a country milerolleyes.gif

I am not wrapped in cotton wool far from it, I have never seen an accident at Chalong circle why would you find that hard to believe, am I ripped off when I go into 7/11? am I ripped off when I go to Central and big c? am I being ripped off when I pay 40 bht for a beer? am I being ripped off when I fill my car up? was I ripped off when I bought a motorbike tire from Supercheap? am I being ripped off when I pay 50 bht for a good meal in a roadside Thai restaurant? I fail to see how I am being ripped off!!!

Yes Phuket and Thailand is a far better place to live than the UK.

That's a bit harsh...I dont understand why these threads always have to get so personal.

It's good to see that from so many posts most people are genuinely happy to live in Phuket. There are a few regular posters on this forum who do like to moan but they dont relate to my experience of living here. Each to their own...

Yes......that's the problem.

You have read my post, could you explain to me and others about being ripped off in the places I mentioned!!

I will of course take on board the information you provide!!

No moaning here.

i speak Thai and been here close to a decade without incident or ridicule regarding phuket and the indigenous folks.

Its a majority of the westerners who settle here that i can't stand but im not here for them nor do i ever support a company run by one.

Kenny sits on his moral high horse claiming to be a saint without sin or incident.

I dont care who you are or how long you been here, everyone gets ripped off from time to time whether you're aware or not.

Take the local moderator for example,a long time resident but still fell victim to a very obvious atm scam.

Nobody is immune.

I dont care who you are...EVERYBODY who has been to Thailand has been overcharged when we first got here...as we stay here longer we become more savvy, but still we can be caught out... just like the post from the forum moderator about the ATM scam. I was amazed but i read it carefully and be on the lookout for this.

If you feel you have never overpaid for anything Kenny, Im selling the Boston bridge and its a great return on your money. Also i know how you can legally own land in Thailand, just PM me and I will cut you a great deal

I do not claim to be a saint or without sin or incident, I once paid 10 bht for air because the old man told my gf falang have many money lol I had a motorbike crash when I first came to Thailand accident free since, I am sure I have been ripped off but I am unaware of it apart from the odd few bht here and there, still waiting to hear from a certain poster how it is he thinks I am being ripped of in places like 7/11 etc

And you are right no one is immune.. :)

How can I put this, I don't feel I have been ripped off with the many things I have purchased since being here, everything I have purchased I thought was a reasonable price so I suppose you could say it is very possible I have been over charged, how much for the Boston bridge is it for sale or is this just a scam lol

Well if you do most of your drinking sitting outside the 7-11s then they generally will give you a receipt with your purchase...move over to the ATM and you might have an incident like the forum moderator. Ignorance is bliss anyways Kenny...if you feel your never getting ripped off then power to you buddy. rolleyes.gif So did you buy your house or you just renting Kenny?

This is my opinion, you should not buy a house in Thailand unless you can afford to lose it all. plus if you have a big problem with neighbors you are stuck with the problem, as I say my opinion only!!

After reading this forum for a few months i can only say how glad i am that i chose to live in the north of Thailand...The news reports of the joys of phuket alone convinced me that i would not want to live phuket, but after observing the frequent few posters rantings i also would not want to live anywhere near such people..Thanks for confirming the underbelly of your imaginary paradise.:D

You just struck me as that kinda bloke rolleyes.gif. I pay the rent yearly and get it for 700 baht a month less than the Thai neighbor. You should do the same Kenny....That would be a few extra 40 baht beers...you could really break out once a month... have a wild night of going to Somchais Kareoke and then do the pub crawl around all the mom and pop shops in Rawaii. Then grab a few cans of Archer from supacheap on the way home....and still have a few coins to put in the money box

I can just see myself outside 7/11 with a brown paper bag lol thought about paying the year up front but I already pay less than the Russians next door so I am a happy Bunny, never

been one for pub crawls, I am very happy with the couple of places I frequent, always happy to pick up a few cans of Leo, Archer is a good cheap beer to, I could sit outside on my

newly bought concrete chair. happy days!! :D all my spare coins goes in the piggy bank of my ready made family's youngest member !!

so news reports and a few quarreling members dictate your lifestyle choices not to come here?

Sad sheltered life you must lead.

Phuket is much bigger than this forum and the few negatives don't outweigh the positives here.

Phuket is a major international destination unlike the backwaters of northern Thailand so its hardly a even comparison.

I just had a read through the chaing mai and chaing rai forums and what a bore.

No need to post your negative post here about phuket when you are purely judging it on news and some wacky interest opinions.

I wouldn't swap phuket for anywhere else in Thailand.

And depressingly, that's the point... I used to shop at the local market as I preferred to give my money to local people rather than 'big corporations', UNTIL I was charged OTT prices a few times...

I now prefer to use the 'big corporations' (Tesco, 7/11 etc.) as I know I will not be ripped off :(.

I know wealthy people living here like this....

They haggle over every baht for cheap items, whilst paying ridiculous prices when they don't have no idea of what the price should be....

And, they think they are v 'canny' and have never been ripped off! B)
