Helping Some Thai Kids Have A Happier Holiday

Featured Replies

My apologies if this isn't the correct place to post this - Mods, feel free to move it if you wish.

Those of you who read Thai forums may have already heard a pitch made my myself or other members in support of the Pattaya Street Kids Support Project and the various ways they're helping disadvantaged children and their families in the Pattaya area.

Some of the children at the home when I made a supervised visit one afternoon.

Later this month PSKSP will again sponsor a special party for the children of the Hauy Phong home, about 40Km outside of Pattaya itself.

This is different than the student sponsorship opportunities for girls and boys around Pattaya itself - these are kids who have been abandoned, left to the streets and abused (in the worst ways) and now live in the safety of this home of plus or minus 400 kids, aged 4 to 17.

I'd like to make it clear that the Pattaya Street Kids Support Project is NOT a religious organization, and the Hauy Phong home - being part of the government's Department for the Prevention of Human Trafficking - doesn't interfere with their "regular" Thai Buddhism, either. PSKSP has virtually no administrative costs whatsoever. They're a registered charity in the UK, too.

For around the cost of a drink (120 baht, or about $4US/2.5GBP) you can pay for a child at the home to attend this annual "gala" day-long event. For that they'll have a full day of games, special meals, music, a dance and several gifts just for them.

If you want to see more of the story and more pictures you can find it on my blog HERE.

I know there are sometimes those who seem to get more jollies from finding fault with an organization than in helping them, but they'd be hard pressed to find fault with this group. Look their site over, and ask some folks who are involved with them. You're more than welcome to email me through my blog email with questions and I'll do my best to answer them. These folks don't waste a penny.
