17 year old send home with a broken leg by Pattaya Hospital

PATTAYA: -- A local government-controlled Hospital is under-fire following allegations of poor treatment of a motorbike accident victim who had sustained a broken leg. Khun Maitinee aged 17, who works at the Big C Supercenter in South Pattaya was on her way home when she was hit by a car. She sustained facial injuries and a broken leg and was rushed to Banglamung Hospital where an x-ray of the leg took place which clearly indicated a serious break. The doctor on duty advised the girl to go home and wait for 2 to 3 days. If, at this point, she felt unwell, she should then return to Hospital. The girl was baffled at this decision and insisted the break should be treated. It was then decided that the girl would be transferred to Chonburi Hospital but she would have to make her own arrangements to get there. The transfer papers prepared by the doctor indicated the break has occurred on the right leg instead of the left. A local city councilor, Khun Sanit, was contacted and came to assist the girl and was appalled at the poor care offered to her. He arranged the necessary transport to Chonburi Hospital.

Banglamung Hospital Director responds to allegations of poor treatment

PATTAYA: -- The Director of Banglamung Hospital has defended their treatment of a 17 year old girl involved in a road accident on Monday where she sustained a broken leg and was initially told to go home with painkillers. Dr. Nalongsak, the Director of the Hospital led a press conference on Tuesday attended by nursing staff and Dr. Chanchai, a bone specialist who supported the treatment given to the girl, despite the fact she suffered a severe break to her Tibia bone. They explained that because of swelling, they needed to wait until this had disappeared before they could continue treatment. For this reason they placed the leg in a soft splint. An option was given to the girl to transfer to Chonburi Hospital for immediate treatment. However, she would have to make her own way there as she was classed as a non-emergency case and their ambulance transfer service is only used for the more acute cases.
