winner
I want to download movies from Newsgroups. Usenet looks good price wise. Has anyone used them? What about others? Thanks OOOPS! I should have said Newsgroup Server. By the way--does CSLOX have one built in? Edited November 25, 2005 by winner

I should have said Newsgroup Server. By the way--does CSLOX have one built in? You would be better served using something like Bittorrent for your movies. The usenet movie downloads are unreliable, that is lots of trojans (one name, different movie). Also, if download fails need to start over again and with several hundred megabytes that's going to happen a lot (depending on your client - see BinaryBoy below). However if you want to know a good nntp server I use Teranews One time setup charge of $3.95 gets you 50MB/day. Larger download plans available for monthly/annual charge. My client software is BinaryBoy Loxinfo do have their on nntp server but may not support binary groups. Edited November 25, 2005 by tywais
meadish_sweetball
Learn to use BitTorrent, DC++ or Limewire. I dont know why you would bother with Newsgroups?

johng
http://www.bnr2.org/ BNR is a news reader software specifically tailored for binary articles (articles from alt.binaries.* newsgroups, for example). The acronym BNR stands for " Binary News Reader " (when talking about BNR1), or for " Binary News Reaper " (when talking about BNR2. Confused? Didn't think so. :-). BNR is freeware but copyrighted. http://www.newsfeeds.com/ for a news server.
astral
I use News Rover. www.newsrover.com It supports multiple downloads from different groups at the same time, assuming you are on adsl wiht the bandwidth.
Firefoxx
Newsgroups (usenet) are old... they were here before the advent of http and websites. They were the de-facto place to get files, and still are a good source, depending on what you're looking for. Some things are much easier to find in newsgroups, others not so. Newsgroups suffer from the same shortcoming as bittorrent: older and less popular files are harder to find. However, most new generation folks don't know anything about them and don't bother to learn, even though there is a wealth of stuff that's easily found there. If you want good service, you need to subscribe to a pay server of one kind or another. Most limit amount of downloads, some don't. A good news reading program is also recommended. I personally use astraweb's service (news.astraweb.com) which gives full DSL-speed access to uncensored groups with no download limit for $10/month, and I use Agent (www.forteinc.com) for reading. I've been using newsgroups since the time when they were the only source of information (no web yet), and I still use newsgroups regularly to this day. johnboi
Newsgroups are reliable, provided you use a good server. And that usually means paying for it. Personally I use http://newsgroupdirect.com/ which has proven to be very reliable 99% completion and 100% all groups available. You get a free newsrover application which is pretty good. Best of all its like shit off a shovel compared to P2P in Thailand. Loads of pay servers give free trials so its worth shopping around and testing them to see which suits you.
