?Transfer From Dreambox Drive To Laptop?

Recommended Posts

Title says it....

I would occasionally like to transfer video files from my Dreambox hard drive to my Mac.

I tried connecting by ethernet cable and entering the D'box ISP in a browser but it doesn't come up, nor does an external memory appear on my desktop.

Any ideas?

thanks Cheeryble

1 Are your connecting through a router? If not, a special lan cross-over cable will be needed.

2. Are you sure you are entering the right ip address for the DB

Can you ping the DB from the Mac?

Not sure how you enter the command as I am a Windows user.

The DB has a web interface which you should be able to access from your normal browser.

The interface is pretty intutitive and file transfer easy

Actually disconnected the router-to-dreambox ethernet cable from the router end and plugged that into the laptop.

So I guess the router was out of the loop.

I've heard of the crossover cables....will that do it bearing in mind the answer to "2"?

(ps: are these cables easy enough [Chiangmai] to find or is it easier to solder oneself I have an iron?)

2. Are you sure you are entering the right ip address for the DB

I took it from the Expert Setup>Communications Setup panel on screen......

I guess your following thing about ping test becomes redundant if I need a crossover cable?

thanks v much!

Better not to bother with a crossover cable.

Just plug your DB and Mac into the router with standard cables.

Probably better to set a fixed IP address for the DB, it is

in the setup section. Untick the box for DHCP

then key in an address 192.168.1.100 should be fine.

Restart the DB to be sure the setting is saved

Then enter that address in your browser on the MAC and you should be in busines.

This is what the screen should look like, yours may be slightly different from mine,

if you have a different DB model

Select a movie, then use the inner of the two scroll bars on the right

and you should find some buttons at the bottom.

One says Download and away you go.
