New Passport, Visa In Old Passport.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Would like some advice please.

I have a single entry tourist visa that I have extended at immigration for 1 month, this is in my old passport and due to expire on Sunday 18th Dec.

I had 1 page remaining in my old passport so applied for a new one which arrived today.

So, can I travel to Nong Khai tomorrow and leave Thailand on my old passport, and enter Laos on my new passport?

Or,

Do I need to transfer my old visa to the new passport at Nong Khai border then proceed into Laos?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Your old passport became invalid for travel the moment you submitted an application for a new one.

If you try to use your old one now you may well end up in the sh*t as it has been cancelled, Use your New passport.

The passport is invalid, but the visa can be used if you put your old passport and new passport together. I have a cancelled passport and my new passport paperclipped together and Immigration still accepts my visa in Thailand (and a few other countries).

On leaving Thailand, show immigration both your old and your new passport. They will put some stamps and notes in your new passport referring to details in your old passport, then give you the departure stamp in your new passport. From that moment forward, use only your new passport to travel; store the old one away as a souvenir.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
