Overstay Question

Featured Replies

I bought my ticket to LOS and will have a 90 day tourist visa. However, my flight itinerary will be for 92 days. What would be the best alternative? I don't want to change my flight ticket and pay the silly money they will charge me to change the flight as well as the difference in the flight itself.

Would it be better to pay the fine at departure? Will there be a big problem for my next trip to LOS if I am in a 2 day overstay situation?

2 day overstay is no big deal and will be 500 baht per day. You can go to immigration in Thailand and extend for an additional 7 days for 1900 baht.

Overstay is highly unlikely to effect any future visit. So 1000 baht fine on departure or 1900 baht for correct extension , your choice.

7 day extension is of course the wisest route. You can do this at any immigration office in the country.

Cost as stated 1,900 Baht,

one passport photo,

signed copies of your passport ID page, current stamp and TM92? arrival card

and confirmed ticket out.

Do not go for the overstay option. The hussle if something goes wrong isn't worth it. The mentioned option of 7 day extend, or during the last two weeks of your holiday a border run including a visit to WatAnkor, so your money isn't lost, are the legal ways. Last option gives you a 14day stamp and a nice sight seeing as well (WatAnkor is worth a short visit). !!!Overstay is not an option!!!!

i assume you have a single entry 60 day tourist visa and are going to extend 30 days to get 90 days ?

if your staying near to a border or fancy visiting a neighbouring country you could forget about the extending the visa and use the 30 days visa exempt entry they offer when you fly in as a holiday maker.

when you first arrive don't put the visa number in the arrival card box and save the visa for the future,

you'll get a 30 day stamp , you could stay in thailand 30 days then visit say ankor wat for 3-4days when you then come back to thailand use the visa for the next 60 days avoiding the overstay.

I once tried to get an extension to avoid a 2 - day overstay and the immigration officer refused to give me one blink.gif . He was saying why waste money, pay the fine at the airport. On my paranoid request, he gave me his mobile phone number.I did not hide for the last 2 days but wasn't driving myself. In combination with your flight ticket you will be on the safe side.
