Next week is the third time I am getting a 1 year extension because of marriage to a Thai. My wife has a daughter who is now 18 years old. I was browsing the Immigration Bureau's site and suddenly noticed for the first time that there is a requirement to produce a birth certificate for the Thai wife's children, if any, when applying for a 1 year extension.

I have never been asked about this before - and I have given the immigration officer pictures of my family here in Thailand, including pictures of my step-daughter, in my two previous interviews. But I have never been asked for a birth certificate for her. Can this come up in future interviews? Have anyone else been asked about this?

I have a photocopy of my step-daughters birth certificate which I think is a photocopy of records Thai authorities have at the amphur or changwat - which I'll bring with me next week. Is my wife supposed to have an official true certified document, an original birth certificate for her daughter? (she doesn't have that!) And can I be asked to produce this at my immigration interview? I don't know if this is relevant but my step-daughter was 10 when I married her mother.

Help! :rolleyes:

There is no requirement to show any documentation relating to your Wife's children.

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)

(2) Proof of family relationship

(3) In the case of a spouse, the marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto;

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

OK. But what about this? (from immigration.go.th)

Phuket Immigration always ask for my Children's Birth Certificates in support of a 777/2.18 Married to a Thai Extension of Permission to Stay Extension application.

I guess they see it as part of the 'De Facto' requirement; however it wouldn't help at all if, as with the OP's case, we are talking about a step child.
