Want To Be Invited To A Traditional Home Christmas In Bangkok

Hi Astral, thanks of for recommendations. Just curious...what really constitutes a real Traditional Christmas Dinner Menu (American or British) and also what traditions are involved with Christmas ie besides the Christmas Tree and Gifts and Socks and Mistsletoe...what else?

As everyone has made clear, if you're looking for "the real thing" of course you won't get it - that's the family / emotional /spiritual stuff. What you can get with money is "the trimmings", so if you want a catered meal that is the same as what you'd get in farangland, that's do-able, I'm a good cook and I need the money. You'd probably feel more comfortable with my helping you decorate your place and serving there than coming over to my place.

I'll do it for less if I can bring the kids, it's the only way they'll get to see all the traditional stuff, I stopped bothering years ago.

Or just go to the hotel buffet and only eat the traditional food. Americans do it a bit differently than Brits, but not much.

Hi jaivin

I just want to add that please don't take offense in our comments. I was not being critical but thought I should point out the fallacy of the request.

While you may not get an invite from anyone at this stage, a possible approach would be if you develop a friendship with someone that observe Christmas. (need not only be westerners in Thailand - there are also a number of philippino, Koreans or other Asians that celebrate Xmas. Traditions may vary slightly of course.

Have to say, it would take knowing them for a bit first of course. I have had the pleasure of joining some friends at Christmas with their close family and I always felt very touched to be invited. It makes one all warm and fuzzy and for that feeling itself I think you are better off to be patient and wait til the day you are invited by a friend.

All the best, and I'll take this moment to wish every one a wonderful Christmas. :)
