Hi

Im UK & Australian Citizen. Currently in Thailand on my UK Passport.

What is to stop me sending my Australian Passport to the Thai consulate in Australia for a business visa and have them send it back to me in Thailand (or to my friend in Aus who sends it to me in Thailand).

I then leave Thailand on my UK Passport to myanmar and return same day on the Australian passport with the business visa. Have i broken any rules?

Is this illegal? Also i might have a problem as passports have chips in them now maybe picked up in the post? Or i could put it in one of those wallets to stop identity theft.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Not illegal.

As long as you qualify for the business visa there will be no problems. Chips are only picked up by the machines that are allowed to read them, the post offices do not use the same system. Sent to your friend in Aus to post from there, as a Thai postmark on the letter might raise questions.

I believe you are supposed to be within the jurisdiction of the issuing consulate when applying for a visa, however if you use an Oz address you are unlikely to be found out.

BUT.

You cannot swap passports at a land border (immigration want to see the exit stamp from the other country), so you'll have to travel in at least one direction by air.

AND

The Thai immigration system certainly knows about those of us with multiple UK passports, I don't know if it can make the same connection between multiple nationalities.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Official policy is no visa for Thailand issued while you are in Thailand will be considered valid. As said they can search by name/dob to find multi passports.

jerk.gif Pardon me for apparenly being stupid...but if you have everything required to get a valid business visa....then why not just take a trip to KL....leaving on your U.K. passport/visa and returning on your Aussie passport/new business visa. Of course, that would mean a night in a hotel in KL....but that shouldn't be to much of a hardship.

Even at best by mailing the Aussie passport, you still risk losing the Aussie passport...or the Thai consulate smelling a rat...and insisting you come and pick up your new visa personally...since you ARE really in Austrailia, aren't you sir?

Why risk something going wrong....just go to KL and pick up your new Thai business visa? Seems much simpler to me.

You seem to be applying for a Thai visa while in Thailand, that would not be correct and if found out it would mean problems at immigration and possibly being denied entry if they pick it up at the border.

Since you have to leave the country anyway, getting a new visa abroad would be my advice.
