I've had serious sinus problems and have had a fair amount of success curing myself. Do you know what the basic physiological problem is, that causes it. ie have you ever had any kind of diagnosis or what are the symptoms.

None. I was fine here in CM and then I went to the US for 2 months and it started then. Was hoping that when I got back here it will subside but it hasn't.

I used to use a medicine called "Sinutab" when i was in the UK, but since Ive been in Thailand I have never had a problem so im not sure if they sell it here. But if you go to the Pharmacy and ask for something equivalent to it im sure it will work well.

seriously, try a nettie pot... i use it for my sinuses and allergies and it really really helps.

other than that, go to a good pharmacist... the lady speaking english at meechok plaza is excellent, been using her for years... she advises me on all matters, great and small

It sounds more like an allergy. I would try sinus rinse twice daily and see if that clears it up. If that doesn't work after a couple of weeks . If you still get some symptoms try something like Flixonase:

http://www.netdoctor.../100001062.html

You might also want to visit the Chinese doctor at Warorot market and get some herbs, they work for me.

Again you want to give it a couple of weeks to see if it works for you.

Actually none of these work for me in isolation. I tend to use a mixture of them all according to what I feel might be coming on. I'm pretty sure I have some sort of allergy but haven't got around to having an allergy test.

Although I had huge success with some NAET treatments which suggested I had some imbalances.

I also tend to feel much better if I eliminate sugar from my diet.

PS Sinutab is a decongestant which if taken for a long period can have the reverse of the desired effect as the body builds up tolerance, so you can end up with worse congestion.

Flixonase is a corticosteroid which controls inflammation of the nasal mucosa. As far as I can see it seems to have no side effects.

Tiffy works for me when I have the occasional nasal problem, but I wouldn't describe my problems as "serious". But, it's worth a try. Tiffy is sold in every drug store and many convenience store in little envelopes of 4 pills for something like 5 or 6 baht. Wouldn't hurt to try it before you go running around town looking for special herbs or equipment.

The pharmacy run by the "two sisters" across from the Hotel M (the old Montri) at Thapae great is a wonderful resource if you're not able to get out to Mee Chok plaza. It's the first pharmacy on the left, a couple stores down from Black Canyon coffee, as you're walking with Thapae gate behind you and Doi Suthep in front. I think it's called Peera Pharmacy.

Pay attention as you walk, because there's another pharmacy two shops away from the two sisters and you could end up in that place, talking with someone who isn't nearly as helpful, if you aren't paying attention to find the first pharmacy beyond Black Canyon.

Tiffy does the job for sinsusitis for me too but only the one with the pseudoephedrine. I think it is the Tiffy <deleted>.

Yeah the sinuses are complex. Can be a lot of things

hydration/dehydration are common and just the last few days it has gotten hotter and drier.

Herbs like Stinging Nettles help a lot of people

Sugar or high carbs are a destroyer of sinus health. Try to lower them.

Decreasing dairy products with high lactose or casein levels. Yogurt or Ghee would be lower lactose. Or take lactase enzyme supplements

An under suspected culprit can also be posture and neck tightness. The sinus cavities are like gutters which are designed for drainage. If the sinus angle changes because of bad posture then the sinus cavity is off balance. Think of a gutter system on a house. If you lifted up one corner of the house by 6 inches then the gutters aren't going to work properly. Especially stretch the hamstrings and back of legs.

You are absolutely right on this one. Any day when I spend a long time on the computer will normally give me sinus trouble as well as a stiff shoulder. The 2 seem to be syncronised. If I am up and about doing something physical all day, I get no trouble at all.

Also aerobic exercise is very good for the sinuses. Any kind of exercise for at least a half hour with an elevated heart rate seems to make a heap of difference. Treadmill or exercise machine works fine. Normal walking not really much help.

My sinuses are always my trouble year after year so I've tried most things. The new things that are not drugs that have had a great effect with me are self-massage of areas associated with sinus according to Chinese accupressure/accupuncture - google it and there are plenty of illustrations, most of them involving spots on head, neck, and shoulders.

And like another said, nettie is amazing. I've turned sinus problems around within hours - got my brain un-blearied, and also got headache to subside. I went to one of the many local pottery shops - big one on Hang Dong after Tesco is good - and just searched a simple 40 b teapot with spout long enough, and bore at the end of the spout small enough to fit up my nose a bit. No, did not stick every tea spout up my nose looking for a perfect fit ! Anyway, I have a good one and follow online direx's for brewing up warm saltwater - though maybe I go a bit stronger as I want antiseptic effects - and am even known to lower head down and massage sinuses to get water in as deep as I can. Then standing up again will let it drain n flush some more. Fun and not fun at the same time. But it works.

Netti pots might seem in the domain of new age crystals n things, but it's an ancient practice. It also just makes sense. We know that salty sea water will heal cuts, and that gargling warm salt water helps clear up an infected throat. Desperation led me there n I can only think now how I wish I'd known of it earlier !

Pseudoephedrine works wonders, but has been pulled off the shelves here now, though you may find the odd place with some Clarinase left.

I always go to the guy at the second one, who is easy to talk to and cheaper. In fact, he's about the only one that has the asthma meds I use. The lady in Meechok (opp' McDs) is really good also.

If anyone's ever in Mae Jo, the middle of the three pharmacies on the left after the main lights is good. They have most things in there, are about the cheapest around, and the one son is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to.
