Another couple and myself both like Thai food but for one reason or another are a bit hesitant to order of the menu. Prefer to see it first.

Were wondering if their is good Thai buffet's in town?

And where are they cost would be appreciated although not necessary.

Why not try going to the type of restaurants that have the food precooked and set out in serving trays? Plenty around town, but not buffets. At 30 baht per plate i imagine you'd be full before paying buffet prices.

Hey Dolly. I don't have an iPhone, but I do know there's an app now that lists dishes with pictures and can even say them to the waitress when you order for you too. They do vary place to place a bit, but most classic Thai recipes are pretty similar across restaurants. Maybe check that out.

Also there've been some favorite restaurant dishes on here - maybe you could just check out the reco'd dishes online or with the app - or maybe just trust n go order them !

There's some extensive knowledge in the Thai Food Subforum too. Have you been ?

The point above about going to a pre-made in pans place is pretty right on too, though not as fancy a dining experience. Depends what you want. If you wanna see a large variety of dishes and to inspire and educate yourself, get to Talat Tanin off Chang Pueak early afternoon to evening and check out the vendors and their massive trays and pans of goodies. Have them right down the names of the ones you like !

As most Thais will order their food dish by dish, I find Thai buffets in town are mainly set out with foreigners in mind and it's very bland, generic, boring, and low quality. I feel this way about most of the hotel buffets that get touted as being of 'good value'.

The mu gata place near the Shell gas pumps, west side of the moat, has many precooked Thai foods as well as all the cook yourself stuff for 139 baht.

There is a nice 69 bht curry house in Jed yod. 5-6 different types of curries, som Tom, rice noodle and/ or rice, many vegis and thai deserts. As stated, all for 69bht. Nice atmospher. At the end of Wat Jed Yod road turn right and look for it on the left side. You will have to do a u turn at the end as you are on a one street separated by a small canal. I eat here a couple times a month and enjoy it. Kevin

I like the cafeteria in Ram Hospital on the 3 rd. fl., They have a decent assortment of pre-made dishes that are pretty tasty, the turnover is good so it's fresh w/quite a few veggie centric choices. 15 bht per dish and 5 bht for rice, feed my family of 4 for US$ 1.67 yesterday! We also make sure to take a few extra home because for that price it's not even worth doing dishes!!

"Buffet Prices"??? You do realize that most Thai buffets around town cost peanuts reght? 49 baht, 59 baht and so on?

Are we in the same town?

I have deleted a couple of off topic replies.

Let's keep your answers relevant to the question.

Cheers and have a good Sunday everyone. Hellodolly enjoy your buffet :) I don't know Cm to be able to recommend a place, but imagine that most of the bigger hotels that do international lunch buffets will have a few thai dishes included. But like someone else said - usually not all that exciting taste wise (at least from my experience with hotel buffet elsewhere

Well if you know where buffets exist for these prices, you should inform us where they are.

Most probably talking about Korean BBQ buffet that I see signs saying "Buffet 59 Bht" etc.

Nope, those are Moo Kata places where you grill meat and stuff. Also fun, but not really Thai food. I'm more talking on the actual Thai buffet places that have loads of proper Thai food to select from, and cost around 60 baht these days I think. I haven't visited them in ages, but there used to be a cluster or them near the provincial government offices on the Middle Ring there. It's really impressive what they can do for so little money.

Not sure where Chang Pueak is. But I will try to locate it and give it a try. In the mean time I think I will go to the Kalare court in the Night Bazaar and see if I can find some thing there to inspire me. Have been there long ago and was not really that inspired If I remember it was not a huge selection and could be pricey for just three items.

Still like to find a real buffet It might not be the best tasting but then again I don't have that discriminating taste buds. I have heard of an up scale Thai restaurant to open in about a month (Thai time) supposed to have several food stations. Will certainly try them out.

Sounds like your first stop should be a book shop for a map of Chiang Mai!

Something is terribly wrong if you have to go to a hospital to buy food!

Not my idea but junglechef recommended and with a handle like that how can I not try it.

But not exactly what you and the other couple were expecting for a meal out together.....was it?

I'm afraid buffet's are not really my style, At a buffet I always eat more than I should and I see a lot of people who definitely eat more than they should. I prefer ordering just one plated meal albeit cheap or not. For Thai buffet, I don't mind the vegetarian places at Veg Society and Pun Pun + my favourite Khun Churn.

1407 posts and cannot find Thai food in Thailand

I'm sure the op can find Thai food, but he was specifically asking for Thai buffet. You should worry more about posters that asks questions like: where to find a hamburger, pizza etc. smile.png

where are all those 59baht buffet 0.0? im staying in chang phueak, those mookata buffets i went are around 120-150baht

There was one last year that was pretty good. On the outside of the moat about half way between Changpuak and the computer places.

Attached to a coffee shop, it was a clean and modern place. They had a nice 69bt Thai buffet for lunch. Not a huge selection, but fresh and tasty. I don't know if they have at supper-time.
