There is no marriage visa. You can apply for a one year "Extension of Stay" based on your marriage and part of the extension process is to issue a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa if you qualify, financial requirements are a monthly income of 40,000 Baht per month income or 400,000 in a Thai bank account in the husband's name.

Yes, you can go from a tourist visa to an extension of stay due to marriage. But, first you have to convert your tourist visa to a Non-O which can be extended for marriage purposes.

In order to convert your Tourist to a Non-O, you must meet the requirements for a marriage extension, but if using the bannk deposit option, the 400000 baht must be in a Thai bank in your name, but does not have to be seasoned for two months. Once you get the Non-O, the money has ro remain "untouched" for 2 months before you can apply for a marriage exrension. CM will convert tourist visas to Non-O in preparation for retirement extensions, but I do not know if they will do it for marriage extensions, they might require that you go to Bangkok. I'd call them or go and ask. The requirements are:

Marriage Requirements

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Registry entry. Kor Ror 3 - updated

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Signed copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

As said the bank account must be in your name only.

Once the money is in your account you can apply to change to non immigrant entry for 2,000 baht in process of one year extension of stay for Thai wife. She will need to go with you and marriage certificate/id card/home register copy and your passport/departure card/form for conversion or issue visa entry and proof of financials (not sure if any residence photos/maps/proof required at this point). Then after money in account 2 months and less than 30 days remaining on that 90 day entry you do the full extension of stay process for 1,900 baht where same and more paperwork may be involved.

Hope this answers you question.

Yes, it is possible to convert but most immigraiton offices will send you to BKK to do so, especially when it is based on marriage.

thank you everyone for your response. It was not possible to change my tourist visa to a non o at chiang mai immigration. just for your information:) I also want to ask if i can extend my non o visa at chiang mai without getting an online queue. Can i just get all the required documents and take my thai wife and head straight to the immigration and get it done that day? I really appreciate your help, thank you!

Chiang Mai immigration does convert to reason of retirement but indeed not for reason of marriage to a Thai.

Yes, you can just go to CM-immgration for an extension, but are advised to do so early in the morning. They have limited slots and are a very bussy office. If you come to late they will tell you to come back the next day.
