Sports Bars

I would always advise people that Chiang Mai is small, and that going from the Night Bazar to Thapae gate is a 10 minute walk, or a 1 minute tuktuk or Red Bus ride.

My second question would be which sports we're talking about; if something like Premier League football then that's easy.

My third question would be if the focus should be solely on sports, i.e. with the sound and commentary turned on, or that it's okay to have TVs somewhere but the bar still playing music.

What was your first question?

And/or (since I know how it is always getting put up to asking for some other well-meaning person) tell that good person to get onto the TVCM subforum and do a little research of his/her own ! Just takes a little computer time, and there's almost not a week goes by with out a thread on where to watch Premiere League, or Us Football, Cricket, Mumbleypeg, etc. around town. Teach a man to fish, as they say.....

Have to agree, although there are also numerous post covering the same observation as you mentioned above, Is the op the same 'butterisbetter' who is a tv sponsor and therefore a local business man? One would think he would be the guy to answer such a query! (Can I say that about a tv sponsor?) sorry.gif

Cheers

There is a new offering near the Night Market, the Australian owner of the Aussie 69 Bar in the Boxing Complex on Loy Kroh has opened a new - Bigger Sports Bar, it is on the extension of Loy Kroh heading straight to the Iron Bridge, on the right, just before what was Guitar Man. It was a massage place until 4 weeks ago, now named the Down Under Bar, easy parking - A Bonus, big TV`s, a pool table where you can actually take a shot from any angle without encumbrance - a Marvel IMO. And one can observe sports without constantly fending off ugly chix and trinket sellers as thick as mossies - well worth a look I suggest, if you like those kinda things mentioned !

Yes, it's the same building where the Horny Beaver massage used to be. It's now under the same ownership as 69 bar at the boxing ring.

Ulysses may remember the building as the old Bunny Club, one of Chiang Mai's most charming Farang-aimed brothels back in the day.

  1. I'm not sure you could call it sports, but many places I've been to have soccer on constantly. It would seem to be the most boring activity ever imagined, yet still, grown men will pay money (or at least buy beers) to watch it. Anyway, there's plenty of those kinds of places here, as most of the tourists here are British and they seem to like that excruciatingly ( to me anyway) boring sport.

Obviously this guy enjoys socialising and not sitting countless hours on his computer, back to the subject in hand, & i agree whole heartily with MRCLOUGH the Red Lion gets my vote every time, very accommodating, nice western food, good choice of beers, live sports and Kevin the owner has been here for years and is the 'information' office of Chiang Mai, problem solved !

Now don't get me started on fishing !
