Citibank Thailand

Recommended Posts

I was curious to see what the current fees situation is for U.S. Citibank accounts when their bank cards are used overseas... And fortunately, although Citi has many different kinds of accounts, they also have a very comprehensive terms and conditions document online for those accounts...

So basically....

As regards withdrawal fees charged by foreign ATMs like the Thai banks 150 baht charge, Citi U.S. will only reimburse those if you're a CitiGold customer with at least $500,000 in total deposits. And then, they'll do up to 6 reimbursements per month for a maximum of $5 each. For other accounts, in general, they won't reimburse those fees.

They'll also waive the fee for online international wire transfers...but not in branch international wire transfers....for that level of CitiGold customer. But the fee for in-branch outbound international wire transfers appears to be the same for everyone, $40 per.

As regards Citi's foreign currency exchange fee.... they appear to have a 3% fee across the board for foreign ATM withdrawals and POS purchases, except for CitiGold accountholders, where that fee is waived.

Citibank also has what they call a Global Transfer Service that allows checking, savings and MMA account holders to send money from their U.S. accounts to any Citibank account in another country, whether it's held by the sender or any other party.... But there are daily and weekly limits on the amounts that can be sent ($10,000 per week max for regular non-Gold accounts).

For outbound international transfers from the U.S., Citi says there is "no fee".... But they don't say those transactions are "free". And indeed, there's a footnote at the bottom of the page indicating: "If the transfer is made in foreign currency, the exchange rate includes a fee for the currency conversion." So you can figure that would be their standard 3% foreign currency fee, except perhaps for Gold accountholders.

So as I believe I said much earlier in this thread, Citibank Thailand only makes sense for an American....as best as I can tell... if you have CitiGold status or some other situation that gets you those same various perks... Otherwise, walk on by....
