OFFICE OF INDUSTRIAL ECONOMICS REPORTED 1.4 BILLION BAHT FROM CAR EXPORTS

The director of the Office of Industrial Economics Artchaka Brimble (อรรชกา บริมเบิล) revealed that the figures generated from the vehicles sold during January to September 2005 was at 140 million baht. The director added that the industry remains upbeat as it could generate more income compared to last year despite the rising oil price.

He added that pickup trucks was the main type of vehicle exported as Thailand is the product base for 1-ton. Demand for other models has declined due to the high oil price. Not many models have been introduced into the car market.

The director said that Thailand has its export market in Australia and Indonesia whereas pickup trucks are mainly exported to New Zealand and Saudi Arabia with the expansion rate of 165 percent and 78 percent respectively.

Dr. Artchaka added that the car exports during the first nine months of this year stood at a value of 145,528.11 million baht, and increased at 38.02 percent compared to the same period of last year and the amount of 311,737 cars were exported with the increase of 32.003 as well.
